Being an Army officer's daughter from a small town of Bareilly, to being the most paid and one of the most successful Indian actors internationally-- Priyanka Chopra's starry journey has been quite incredible. But, it wasn't easy at all for her, says the actress.
Priyanka opened up about being a woman in the big, bad world of Bollywood and discussed her struggles in an interview with Barkha Dutt for NDTV.
Priyanka says that ambitious women always have to bear the brunt, while men get away easily as they are supposed to be more driven than women.
"Ambition is like a cuss word for a woman. When a man is ambitious, he is called driven. When a woman is ambitious, it's a bad thing. It is the irony of our world. People still do it in a passive-aggressive sort of way. People tend to be patronising. If a hero feels good at a movie doing well, and struggles when the movie is not doing well, why shouldn't I feel the same?," she says.
But for her it was not the same as her family is full of ambitious women, she adds. Priyanka also made a shocking revelation on the show that a big corporation came to her with a no-pregnancy clause. Priyanka says that she was livid when she read that!

"I was signing a contract for a big corporation a couple of years ago, and a clause there said that they (the corporation) could terminate it (the contract) if I got pregnant.I was livid. How could you tell me I could not get pregnant.. Not sick.. not overweight.. just pregnant!," she says in the interview.
"Their logic was that I would not be able to deliver the project on time. I was fine with working when I am pregnant. We had a big argument over it. I said 'Alright, if I can't deliver when I am pregnant, you have the right to terminate my contract. If I can deliver, and you don't want me to, then I have the right to terminate," she adds.

Another shocking point put forward by Priyanka in the interview was that she doesn't get affected by shamers as she's seen it all and that's the easiest way to pull a woman down.

"That's the world we live in. It is going to take a very long time for people to start seeing women differently. Right now, the easiest way to put 'a woman in her place' is to shame her. People do that all the time,"she says.
She goes on to say that the easiest way to shame a woman is to disrespect her.

"They use sexual innuendos; boys are called studs, we are called some other word that starts with 's'. Body shaming is the easiest way to pull down a woman. I was lucky to be taught by my parents to chat back. I am someone who puts people in their place. I am not trying to say I have accepted it, I haven't. The whispers are there, but they are not loud enough to get to me. My family is extremely supportive."
We are totally with you on this Priyanka and we hope that you continue to inspire millions of young girls and women across the globe. More power to you girl!
