Baby Dove conducted a survey recently, wherein, it was revealed that 60% new mothers feel immense pressure because of the media and society. And as a result, they want to regain their pre-pregnancy body. But the question is, is it really possible to lose all that post-pregnancy weight?
Nutritionist Meghna Joshi says that there are various factors that come into play when a new mum wants to lose weight. For example, the hormones, mindset, sleep patterns, stress levels, food patterns and physical activity are some major factors that influence a new mum’s weight loss.
She adds that while it is possible to lose the weight in the first year after your pregnancy, it’s crucial to do it the right way. So, it is important to have a nutritious diet and not starve yourself when you lose those extra kilos post-pregnancy.
Nutritionist, Meghna Joshi advises that new mums should have a nutritious, balanced diet. It can be a healthy combination of traditional Indian foods as well as some modern recipes. She emphasizes the need to manage the portions that you are having to avoid overeating.
Further, she also explains that new mums should eat fruits and vegetables. She busts a few myths about certain vegetables being gassy in nature. For example, many new mums avoid eating onion and garlic as it is believed they tend to build up gas in their tummies. Or many new mums avoid cauliflower as they feel it could make their baby colicky.
But Meghna Joshi advises that having anything in small proportions is okay. She adds that mums should observe their babies for being colicky. That might give them an insight into what foods are suiting their little one and which ones are not. However, giving your baby the taste of everything is important according to her.
