12 surprisingly weird ways to get pregnant you must know about

8 Oct, 2015

Pierce your nose and wear mehendi? Here are some weird ways to get pregnant that might sound strange to your ears but are said to boost fertility.

Strange ways to boost your fertility

Strange ways to boost your fertility

There’s a big infant shaped hole in your life that you want to fill fast. You’re doing what it takes to get pregnant, but the stork still seems to skip your house. And while you wait for a miracle to happen, there's a barrage of advice that comes your way, whether you like it or not.

Of all the tips, you probably didn't know the existence of some really offbeat ways to get pregnant. So going beyond the obvious, here are some purely unusual methods that are said to boost fertility and help you conceive fast. While some of them may make sense, others may sound plain bizarre. If you are game, try these.

Pierce your nostril

Pierce your nostril

If you thought piercing is a punk’s fashion statement, rethink. Piercing your left nostril is said to increase your fertility. Err…how? According to Ayurveda, piercing a particular node on the nose of a woman is said to work like acupuncture. This improves blood flow to the uterus and a woman's chances of conceiving. That's also why a nose ring is a part of the solah shringar of a bride.

So if you make did with a temporary nose ring for your wedding, you just delayed your chances of getting pregnant. Gosh. So how about sporting a stud on your nose before telling the hubby, ‘lets make a baby, honey’?

Slip on a pair of toe rings

Slip on a pair of toe rings

Toe rings or bichiyas is a traditional symbol that indicates a woman is married and is ready to be a baby-making machine. Now, if you took them off on the night of the wedding as they gave you sore toes, we don’t blame you. But then, bichiyas are believed to regularise the menstrual system and make you baby-ready, says Ayurveda. It is also said to increase the woman’s sex drive. Ooh, these age-old traditions seem to know the stuff, I tell you.
Get some sunlight

Get some sunlight

You're headed out for a vacation and have packed your skimpiest swimwear in an attempt to lure the husband into some baby-making action. Now, hear this—basking in the sunlight will increase your chances. Scientists have found that vitamin D greatly increases the production of sex hormones oestrogen and progesterone required to make conception more likely. Aren’t you looking for beach resorts already?
Rearrange your furniture

Rearrange your furniture

Vastu firmly believes that the layout of a house should have a particular orientation in order to allow flow of positive energy. Wrong placement of furniture could delay pregnancy, according to this ancient science. So if you’ve been wondering whether you’ve been sleeping and peeing in the wrong direction, get a Vastu expert to check it out for you.
Throw your underwear over the roof like the Yansis do

Throw your underwear over the roof like the Yansis do

The Yansi people from Africa’s Congo region have a bizarre tradition to get pregnant. They toss their underwear over the roof during the waning moon. To get pregnant, one has to fetch it back but only on a new moon day. Sounds like a drunken party game, but if you’re up for some late night shenanigans, have fun.
Wear mehendi

Wear mehendi

Henna or mehendi tattoos look beautiful on a woman's hands. But little did you know that certain mehendi symbols, such as paisley, flowers or zigzags are a secret call for a baby. Since donkey’s years, henna designs have deeper hidden meanings that signify health and happiness in marital life. So if someone asks you why you chose a certain mehendi pattern, tell them that it’s a secret message to the baby-blessing Gods.
Wear a gemstone

Wear a gemstone

Reality show queen Kim Kardashian revealed that she meditated around crystals when she and her husband, rapper Kayne West were struggling to have their second baby. Certain gemstones when worn close to the body are said to have vibrating effects which influence the way the body and the mind respond to healing energies. Closer home, several Bollywood stars have been observed to sport gemstones for various reasons. Bling, bling!
Worship the peepal or banyan tree

Worship the peepal or banyan tree

If you’ve seen women move around the peepal or the banyan tree in prayer and didn’t know why, let us tell you now. Both these trees are said to have tremendous healing properties. Again, as per Ayurvedic medicine, the extract of the tender roots of the banyan tree and the young leaves of the peepal tree can help you conceive. This is also said to be true with the herb ashwagandha. Move over fertility drugs.
Tell the man to drink pomegranate juice

Tell the man to drink pomegranate juice

High in antioxidants, pomegranates are undoubtedly one of nature's super foods. Among tons of other benefits, the fruit is said to boost sperm quality. So keep adding pomegranate kernels to your husband's flavoured rice, salads or desserts and ask him to sip up the juice every day. Hopefully, before he's had enough, you will conceive.
Ask your spouse to get poked

Ask your spouse to get poked

We are not asking you to ‘poke’ him on Facebook, or get a piercing. We are telling him to turn to acupuncture. Research has shown that regular acupuncture reduces the chances of infertlity and improves sperm quality. But do not try this at home, if you must, visit a registered acupuncture centre.
Ask the hubby to cool off

Ask the hubby to cool off

Heat is said to create a hostile environment for sperm production. So at home, urge your husband to go commando or wear boxers to allow air to circulate all over so that he cools down. Also, stop him from having a hot shower just before sex for the same reason. Your hubby could even try chucking his underpants into the freezer before wearing them. Uh, okay, just ask him to keep cool.
Turn off the Wi-fi

Turn off the Wi-fi

Laptops and other devices connected to the Wi-fi can hamper sperm quality and reduce fertility, says research. Besides, the heat from the laptop could also hamper sperm formation. So you two could be up online all night looking for ways to conceive without knowing that you’re destroying the precious sperms at the same time.
