This delightful Instagram video of Ellen Pompeo dancing with her new born son will bring a smile to your face. Must watch!

We’d say watch the video before you read this article if you are wondering why the internet is going gaga over Ellen Pompeo, waltzing with a boy. Well, it’s not any boy. It’s her darling little new born, Eli Christopher, and the two look beyond adorable.

Most every parent will relate with this brief, but gorgeous video of the mum-baby duo slow waltzing to ‘How can you mend a broken heart’. The video was shared on Instagram by the 'Grey's Anatomy' star Ellen Pompeo.

Holding her bundle of love close to her, she swayed around with smile, only a proud, heard-over-heels-in-love mother can have. "Boy Crazy," wrote Ellen. "Here's to a year filled with happiness and love!"

Boy Crazy....Here's to a year filled with happiness and love! Happy New Year ❤️????❤️

She announced Eli's addition to the family on December 29. Married to Chris Ivery, the couple have two daughters, Stella, 7, and Sienna, 2. Incidentally, with Eli’s arrival, Ellen’s family size now matches that of Meredith Grey, the character she plays on ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, who also has two daughters and a son.

That dance was adorable, wasn’t it? Well, that’s not the only way to bond with your bub. As new babies spend a lot of time sleeping, eating, or crying, whatever is left of it may as well be used to make your bond with your him that much more special. My baby and I bonded over books. However, we got there after a lot of trial-and-error. Here’s a few things I tried, which may help you forge a friendship with your baby early on:

  1. Sing along: Yes, you read that right. As he gurgles and coos, you sing to his tunes. Before you know it, both mommy and baby will have a go-to-tune! Speaking out of experience, the song need not necessarily be a kiddy-number. To date, my daughter and I croon to Roy Orbison’s 'Pretty Woman' and to think that the first time I sang this to her was when she was barely a week old. Bliss!
  1. Take a house tour: Babies are fascinated by the world around them. Even though it’s said that the vision of a new born is not as clear, they can still make sense of colours and figures. Walk around with him, show him the aquarium, name that fish, show him the wall-clock, the swing in your patio. Indulge his senses and keep his attention captivated.
  1. Massage your baby: Some of the best times I’ve spent with my daughter were when I’d give her a good massage. Not only did it calm her down, but it was also the time for have our one-on-one talks. The cooing was never more comprehensible.
  1. Read a book: It’s never too early to introduce your baby to books. The earlier the better, I say. Even though he may not comprehend the ongoings, read out from the books nevertheless. Point to pictures and familiarise him with the world of books. This bond will be there to stay.
  1. Exercise with the bub: Which new mum doesn’t want to shed the post-pregnancy weight? How about having the baby around as you work-out at home? Refer to books on simple exercises you can do with your baby, watch videos of mum and baby work outs. If it sounds too much, you could just go for a walk baby-wearing him, talk about the day, hear what he has to say.

These breezy activities will help you forge a bond strong enough for you to figure out what’s up with your baby, when he is uncomfortable, or for that matter, when he wants some mommy-time!
