And, it seems regular folks like you and I are not the only ones affected by this constant bombardment. Even celebrity couples have to face the same fate at the hands of their relatives.
Vidya Balan pregnant?
Just days after Bipasha Basu addressed rumours of an impeding pregnancy, actor Vidya Balan has admitted she is facing these questions as well. She admits to having read the question: "Is Vidya Balan pregnant?" many times.
In an interaction with the media for the promotions of her newest flick Begum Jaan, Balan stated that she is not a baby-making machine and will announce the plans when she is ready.
"I am not a baby-making machine"
When asked about rumours of her impending pregnancy (read Is Vidya Balan pregnant?) from last year when she was actually battling a health problem she said, "It was annoying. I could be going to a clinic for an acne too! Why is it that every time a woman, post marriage, visits a doctor, there are whispers of her pregnancy?" she questioned.
The Kahaani 2 actor who is always vocal about her thoughts and her stand on social issues added that pregnancy was a matter that was best left to her and her husband Siddharth Roy Kapur.
"I don't think it's anyone's business except mine and my husband's (producer Siddharth Roy Kapur). It was a serious invasion on our privacy, but our country is such. Neighbours and relatives [constantly] ask us (unnecessary questions)," said the actor who married Kapur in a low-key wedding on December 14 in 2012.
What is this baby obsession?
The actor also revealed that the day she got married, one of her uncles also made a similar statement about an impending pregnancy.
The 38-year-old actor shared, "The day I got married, one of my uncles told me at the wedding venue, 'Next time I see you [her and Siddharth], I should be looking at three people, not two'. This was even before our wedding pictures could be clicked. I politely laughed because we hadn't even decided on our honeymoon destination then."
"What is this baby obsession? I am not a baby-making machine. Anyway, the world population is on a rise. If some people don't have children, it's fine," she stated. It looks like the powerful actress is not ready to become a mum yet. However, if she does decide she will have to be extra cautious since pregnancy post 35 can come with its fair share of challenges.
Getting pregnant after 35
We spoke to Dr Nupur Gupta, gynaecologist and obstetrician, Director, Well Women Clinic, Gurgaon, who shared, "If a woman wants to be pregnant after 35 then make conscious healthy choices. Taking care of yourself is the best thing to healthy outcome." She also listed a few other things women must keep in mind.
- Do visit to gynaecologist to discuss the overall issues and to correct any pre-existing diseases.
- Seek regular prenatal care. Regular prenatal visits help your health care provider monitor your health and your baby's health. Mention any signs or symptoms that concern you. Talking to your health care provider is likely to put your mind at ease.
- Start to eat a healthy diet and gain weight wisely.
- Do regular physical activity to stay fit, healthy, active and energetic.
- Avoid intake of alcohol, tobacco and illegal drugs are off-limits during pregnancy.
- Clear any medications or supplements with your health care provider ahead of time.
- Learn about prenatal testing for chromosomal abnormalities.
