Television actor Sneha Wagh who became a household name with shows such as Jyoti, Veera and Life OK's Sher-e-Punjab Maharaja Ranjit Singh has so far portrayed strong female characters onscreen. She was often seen fighting abusers and bringing them to justice.
But in real life she couldn't fight abuse and domestic violence for several years.
Yes, you read that right.
Wagh, 30, who has been married twice has been unlucky in love both times. She was a victim of domestic violence in her first marriage, while in her second she says, she fell for the "wrong guy."
"I have ended my second marriage"
Sharing her ordeal from both her marriages Wagh explained, "Yes I did (face domestic violence), and I didn't know how to deal with it. I was very young at that time. I was just 19. It was a proper domestic violence case. Frankly, I was never sure whether I should marry again. After 7 years, I somehow made up my mind that I should try settling into matrimony again. It was my sheer bad luck that I chose a wrong man again."
The Veera actor married interior designer Anurag Solanki in 2015, however, even that marriage failed within eight months.
"It is true that I have ended my second marriage. I am separated since a year now. However, there have been no legal proceedings from either side, which implies that we have not filed for divorce yet. But yes, the divorce will be happen soon," Wagh added.
"After two failed marriages, I have realised that men don't like headstrong women"
Talking about her second husband she shared, "I wouldn't say that he was a wrong guy, but yes, he was not the right one for me. Also, maybe, I am a headstrong girl. My first marriage failed because of domestic violence. After two failed marriages, I have realised that men don't like headstrong women. I have a soft nature and am also fragile. Even a minor glitch can scar me."
Two failed marriages has certainly shaken up her belief in the institution of marriage and Wagh says she is better off alone now.
"Now, I strongly feel that marriage is not meant for me. It is in fact over-hyped. In our society, we have this perception that only men can take care of the family, but that is not true. I am confident and capable of taking care of my family," she shared.
"I am definitely not inclined towards love now"
As for love in the future, Wagh says that she is being cautious but not presumptive.
"Right now, career is my focus. I won't say that love is bitter, but I am definitely not inclined towards it now. I can't comment on whether it'll happen in the future or not," she shared.
Wagh also shared that she is no longer concerned with the most used phrase "Log Kya Kahenge!" and plans to lead her life the way she so desires.
"I wouldn't like to go through whatever happened in my personal life all over again. Not anymore for sure. Today, my own happiness comes first to me. I got married for the second time to seek happiness for myself and not for the society, neither for my family nor for the public. I wasn't happy and I rightly decided to be single. No woman should bow down to societal pressures. Let's stop thinking all the time that 'Log Kya Kahenge?'” shared the strong actor.
Well, we salute her spirit and wish her the best.
