The Komolika from Kasautii Zindagi Kay, Urvashi Dholakia was a trendsetter in her times with her beautiful eyes, stunning looks and great acting.
While on one hand, she was reigning millions of hearts as this ravishing bad woman of the ‘tellyland’, on the other, she was a struggling, single mum to her two sons, Sagar and Kshitij. Here’s what Urvashi said about being a single mother:

“Being a single mother was difficult. People tell me how I don’t look like a mother and how I haven’t aged. It’s amusing. Why will I age? I am 37. Many harp over the fact that I had my sons when I was 17. But what is the big deal? I take these comments in a positive way. I am proud of my journey, which has been a long one," she said in an interview with the Hindustan Times.
"My boys and my family are my priority"

When asked about her relationships and link ups, she commented that:
“Being a single mom and taking care of my family took up a lot of my time. I had responsibilities and I didn’t have the time to think about my personal life. I have never hidden anything, so why would I hide a relationship? My boys and my family are my priority.”
She continued to explain why she took a break from work:
“I took a two-year break after Bigg Boss 6 as I wanted to be with them in their late teens. I wanted to give them time. I rejected 15 shows in this period, but most of them weren’t good. I wanted them to turn 21 and then return to work. I am content in the space I am in right now.”
Urvashi also went on to sharing that her sons, now 22, would get her support in whatever they wish to do. Here’s what she said:

“They will decide [what they want to do]. I will encourage them in whatever they do. If they want to join the entertainment industry, I will be there for them (rolls eyes). I wish them luck. Both want to act and direct. They have assisted in films in the past.”
Mums, don’t you think it’s natural for any single mum to do exactly what Urvashi did? Hats off to her for her courage and commitment towards her family.
5 Things that single mums must keep in mind:
- Parenthood is no cakewalk, and being a single parent, a tough choice!
- Learn to be your own support as you may or may not have it from external sources.
- You will need to balance between your career or work life and family.
- Help your children become independent from an early age so that they can take care of themselves if situation arises.
- Just like all other children, even your kids deserve a good life so be gentle with them despite your own frustrations and problems.
