Twinkle Khanna took a holiday, without her kids… and why you should too!

Twinkle Khanna took a holiday, without her kids… and why you should too!Twinkle Khanna took a holiday, without her kids… and why you should too!

She didn’t try to be miss-goody-two-shoes and in one of the pictures owned up that she was happy because there were no pesky kids along with her!

Actor turned author Twinkle Khanna recently undertook a vacation. Well, no big news there, you would say. But wait, her holiday was important for all of us mums to take note of for two reasons – 1. She went on a holiday to Paris without her family and kids and

2. Because she didn’t try to be miss-goody-two-shoes and in one of the pictures posted on Instagram owned up that she was happy because there were no pesky kids along with her!

Home away from home for the next few days #Paris #ThanksAirbnb #NoPeskyKidsThankGod #LiveThere

While Twinkle who routinely keeps us engaged with her wisecrack wisdom has never been the one to mince words; her refreshing honesty serves as one important reminder to millions of mums – that ‘good mums’ too sometimes get tired of the endless chore of taking care of kids and deserve a solo break.

If you too have been secretly thinking of leaving all your motherly duties behind for some days so that you can explore the world and recharge yourself here are a few reasons why you MUST:

Almost time to skip back home for a quick stop before the next adventure begins-this time with the entire family! #saintgermain #LiveThere #ThanksAirbnb #returnofthelimpingjedi

1. It breaks common perceptions: While it may be unfair to say that Indian mums do not take holidays just for themselves away from family or kids, it can be easily said that the trend is not that commonplace. For a vast majority of women across segments, their duties as a mother and a wife comes ahead of any little luxuries they allow themselves off.

So far we have bought 1 bottle of wine, 2 bagels, 6 eggs, 4 lemons just incase life forgets to give us some to turn into lemonade and this blooming hydrangea #LiveThere #saintgermain #MerciAirbnb

So, by putting yourself first, sometimes you will not only break that common dictate that a mum is happiest only when she’s around with the kids it will also lead to your family members realising that as mothers you still have some needs exclusive to yourself.

2. It helps you explore: While I was browsing through Twinkle Khanna’s travel pictures I noticed how in one post she talks about taking a photography class in Paris and also about how she explored street art while walking across the city streets. In yet another post she posts a picture of a bookstore and says that she found a place to rest her travel tired feet.

Now tell me, how many times travelling along with the kids have you been able to make a pit stop just so that you can read your favourite book or you have been able to admire and explore street art.

Well, at least all my holidays with my toddler have been spent either running after her or making the rounds to numerous toy stores, amusement parks, kiddie rides in a new place.

If like me, on a holiday you too want to just sip a cup of coffee sitting in a quaint café as you see the world pass you by then well, there is no bigger reason that that to take that holiday with friends or solo now!

3. It bonds you as a family even more: In one of her other pictures, posted later during the trip, Twinkle, writes about getting back home and then looking ahead to another adventure this time with the family. Well, this is what, a solo holiday also does to you.

While you sort your emotions and discover yourself, when you have a lot of me-time, it also makes you realise the worth of the people around you.

We first came to Paris in 2002 and now 15 years and 35 holidays later here we are again @bindyany #Paris #LiveThere #ThanksAirbnb #reunion

Often recharged with the newer zest you make it a point to spend even more quality time with those you love. A holiday without your immediate family sometimes serves as a potent tool to bond you even more with your kids and family.
