Looks like this year will go down in history as the year of breakups in tinseltown. After Rock On actor Farhan Akhtar and wife Adhuna Akhtar separated in February this year, another popular couple, this time from the television industry, has shocked everybody with news of their separation.
Upasana Singh, who gained national popularity, thanks to her stint as Kapil Sharma's bua on the show Comedy Nights With Kapil, is headed for a divorce after seven years of marriage to actor Neeraj Bharadwaj.
A leading daily has reported that the couple have been living separately for the past four years and while they are on talking terms they are not pursuing active communication.
"They were on talking terms even while staying separately, but there has been no communication since nine months. Though they tried to make the marriage work, the differences were irrevocable. Their relationship has been marred by compatibility issues and different expectations from each other. Upasana didn't even invite Neeraj to her birthday party recently," the source told the daily.
What the couple said
Singh herself is not too keen to talk about this and even stated that it wasn't something she intends to discuss later.
"It's a personal matter and I don't appreciate media intruding in that space. I wouldn't want anything on my personal life making its way into the public domain," she told the daily.
Her estranged husband Neeraj Bharadwaj, who played the character of Chirag Modi in the hit serial Saath Nibhaana Saathiya, however, revealed some intimate details about their separation.

Speaking to the daily, Bharadwaj revealed, "We weren't on the same page and I couldn't meet her expectations. We decided to part ways amicably. Upasana doesn't need me and I shouldn't hold her back."
The estranged husband also noted that since the two have worked together in the past, it is amply clear that their profession has nothing to do with their separation. In fact, many may not know this but Singh is a senior actor and joined the industry much before her husband who is her junior.
"We have worked together on numerous occasions. She is my senior, but her popularity or our professional lives have never posed a threat to our marriage. There are no ego clashes on that front," shared Bharadwaj, who is planning to file a divorce petition after the Diwali festival.
When the wife earns more
While this couple may be trying to manage their personal situation amicably, there are many who go through a tumultuous marriage owing to a difference in earnings between the husband and wife. It could be especially difficult if the wife earns more than the husband.
But this is soon becoming common in India.
Just by making a few adjustments including coming up with short-term goals, planning long-term finances, contributing to the household expenses and planning spending on each other, you can make this situation easier.
