So you would think that Bollywood parents would have the luxury of deputing helpers to take care of everything from cooking to childcare.

However, busting this myth while charting new territory in single parenting is none other than new dad Tusshar Kapoor.

Recently Tusshar Kapoor was spotted dropping his 1-year-old son Laksshya to play school. The doting daddy did not rely on just the nannies to drop his son but was seen braving the Mumbai rains along with his cute baby.

Considering Tusshar is a single dad despite the fact that it may get tough at times to manage the baby he has been pretty vocal and patient about his new role.

What comes as a breath of fresh air is not only the fact that these new age daddies are looking at child rearing as their sole responsibility they are also inspiring several new parents on how a dad’s role in bringing up a child is just as important.

Traditionally, till a generation ago dads in India would often not get involved in the nitty-gritties of child care and would leave it all on mums. Times are changing and now it isn’t uncommon for dads to do weekend duties with the baby as the mums go fir some me-time.

Tusshar’s gesture only serves as a lovely reminder that dads are capable of doing everything if they set their heart on it.

Relationship counselor Rachna Shah gives us some ideas on daddy-baby bonding

  • Distribute duties: While certain things like breastfeeding will always remain a mums’ territory it’s important to delegate some duties to dads too. Whether it is massaging the baby post a bath or giving a night bath and putting them in a cot to sleep, it's better that new parents mutually agree on duties they can perform better to help themselves from getting burnt out with exhaustion and also giving each other time to bond with the baby.
  • Daddy time: As a mum you may feel inclined to be around your baby all the time but sometimes let the father take charge. On evenings or during weekends put the baby in a bassinet or a pram and let daddy take them for a stroll. The baby should also get used to the idea of being comfortable with both parents.
  • Fun activities: When the baby is a little older you can enroll the dad and the baby for some classes together. Whether it is the daddy-daughter dancing or father-son yoga it helps the bond between the two strengthen while the mum gets some off time. A win-win for all!
