Try these 5 nutritious khichdi recipes for your 6-month-old now!

Khichdi is a complete meal full of nutrition and every mom should feed this to their baby when they have just started solids. Khichdi is easier to intake for the baby as it is in a semi-liquid form. Also, khichdi offers good amount of energy to your baby.

Khichdi is the healthiest option for your baby and will also keep your baby’s tummy full. Here are 5 yummy khichdi recipes every mom should make for their six-month-old baby.

#1 Humble Dal Khichdi

#1 Humble Dal Khichdi

This is the most basic form of preparing khichdi. It is made of just 2-3 ingredients and will hardly take any time to prepare. Also, your baby would love it.

Ingredients:

2/3rd cups of rice

1/3rd cup of moong or toor dal

1 small garlic clove

A pinch of hing

1tsp desi ghee

Some salt to taste

Method:

1. Wash and soak the rice and dal for half an hour and drain the water.

2. In a pressure cooker add dal, rice, garlic salt and hing.

3. Pressure cook till 3 whistles.

5. After the steam is released add ghee and it is ready to serve.

#2 Palak Khichdi

#2 Palak Khichdi

Palak or spinach is one of the healthiest leafy greens and will promote add the much-needed iron to your infant's diet. Here is a delicious palak khichdi recipe you can make for your baby in a jiffy.

Ingredients:

2/3rd cups of rice

1/3rd cup of toor or moong dal

A small bunch of palak (spinach)

½ tsp jeera seeds

1 tsp desi ghee

2 cloves of garlic

A pinch of turmeric powder and hing

Some salt to taste

Method:

1. Wash and soak the dal and rice in water for half an hour and drain the water.

2. Clean and chop the palak (spinach) leaves.

3. In a pressure cooker, add ghee.

4. Then, add jeera seeds with hing and let it crackle.

5. Add the spinach leaves

6. Then add turmeric and salt as per taste.

7. Once the spinach looks cooked, add dal and rice.

8. Add 3 cups of water.

9. Allow the pressure cooker to cook up to 3 whistles.

10. After removing the steam, mash it a little and it is ready to serve.

#3 Mixed Vegetable Khichdi

#3 Mixed Vegetable Khichdi

When your baby is small serving direct vegetables will not be very easy as they won’t like the taste and find them difficult to digest. Therefore, this is the best way to add some vegetables in your baby’s daily diet. Here is a very easy recipe to prepare vegetable khichdi for your baby.

Ingredients:

2/3rd cups of Rice

1/3rd cup of toor or moong dal

1 cup of cleaned, chopped and grated vegetables (peas, onion, tomato, carrot)

½ tsp jeera seeds

1 tsp desi ghee

A pinch of hing and turmeric powder

Some salt to taste

2 cloves of garlic

Method:

1. Wash and soak the rice and dal for 30 minutes.

2. Add ghee in the pressure cooker.

3. Add jeera seeds with hing to the ghee and let it crackle.

4. Then add the vegetables, salt, turmeric powder, dal and rice.

5. Add 3 cups of water.

6. Allow the pressure cooker to cook up to 3 whistles.

7. Remove the steam, mix well and mash the vegetables with the rice. Now it is ready to serve.

#4 Curd Khichdi

#4 Curd Khichdi

Curd Khichdi is the perfect recipe you can give your baby when they have an upset stomach or when they refuse to eat anything else. This recipe soothes them and is the tastiest khichdi recipe for your baby.

Ingredients:

2/3rd cups of cup rice

1/3rd cups of moong or toor dal

½ tsp jeera seeds

Curry leaves- 5

1/4th cup of curd

1 tsp ghee

Some salt to taste

Method:

1. Make plain khicdi with moong or toor dal (See the plain khichdi recipe.)

2. After the khichdi has cooled down, add the curd to it and mix it nicely.

3. Then in a pan, add ghee.

4. Add jeera seeds and curry leaves and let them crackle.

5. Add the curd khichdi mixture, mix well for 2 minutes and it is now ready to serve.

#5 Wheat Dalia Khichdi

#5 Wheat Dalia Khichdi

Dalia which is also known as lapsi is perhaps the healthiest first foods for your baby. This is why every six-month-old infant must be given this khichdi at least once a week if not more.

Ingredients:

3/4 cup Broken Wheat dalia

1/4 cup moong dal

1 tsp jeera seeds

A pinch of hing

1 clove, garlic and a small piece of ginger, mash them together

1 onion

A pinch of turmeric powder

Clean and chop vegetables like carrot, potato, beans and peas

1 tsp desi ghee

Method:

1. Wash and soak dalia and moong dal in water for 15 minutes.

2. In a pressure cooker, add ghee.

3. Add jeera, hing and let them crackle.

4. Add the onions and then ginger garlic mash.

5. Add the veggies and fry for a minute.

6. Then add the dalia and moong dal.

7. Add 4 cups of water.

8. Pressure cook for 4 whistles.

9. After the steam is released, mix well and serve it to the baby.
