We often hear stories of kids being lost, exploited and sexually assaulted every day in India, but this is one story that would melt your hearts and restore your faith in humanity.
What happened
Constable Dharmender was on his usual patrol when an auto driver came to him with a crying child(named Parul), who was unable to find his parents. The auto-rickshaw driver reported that Parul had boarded his auto saying that he was looking for his parents. The incident happened at around 8 in the morning, say news reports.
When the driver asked him about his address and location, the little one burst into tears. However, when Dharmendra came to know about the incident he reported to his seniors and took it upon himself to look for the lost child's parents.
After this, Dharmendra with the help of the good-hearted auto-rickshaw driver took the child to every house in the A, B and C block of the Kalkaji area in New Delhi to find his parents.
"Everyone he asked gave him directions which helped him map his way to the child's house. Being a beat constable Dharmender was aware of the locality," said a police officer.
However, being such a small child it was tough for Parul to identify his locality. But, Dharmendra was undeterred and made sure he knocked at every house in the area in order to identify his parents. Thankfully, en elderly man recognised Parul and took them to his house.
They found his home at last
Later it was found that Parul lived with his grandfather Tirath Kohli, a local businessman in Kalkaji. His father had passed away two years back and his mother remarried and left the child at his grandparents house.
Police also say that Parul was playing had accidentally stepped out of his home, when someone lured him with sweets and toys. The poor boy followed the stranger for about two kilometres and reached the main road when he finally approached the auto-rickshaw.
DCP Mandeep Singh Randhawa said that the constable would rewarded for this. Delhi police has also launched a drive to reunite lost children with their parents.
