These 5 outfits are the perfect desi maternity wear! These 5 outfits are the perfect desi maternity wear!

We trace the maternity style of Mira Rajput, Genelia Deshmukh and Kareena Kapoor Khan to get an insight into how to style Indian outfits during pregnancy!

If you thought maternity wear was just about frumpy and loose clothing, you'd be wrong. Because as these celeb mums have proved time and again that maternity wear can also be quite fashionable.

And believe it or not, they are bringing desi back to the front with some breathtaking Indian maternity wear. From anarkalis to short kurtas, from lehengas to A-line shirts, these Bollywood mums are proving that desi wear can be just as fashionable a maternity wear as any western outfit.

We trace the maternity style of Mira Rajput, Genelia Deshmukh and Kareena Kapoor Khan to get an insight into how to style Indian outfits during pregnancy!

#1 A-line kurta with salwar

Kareena Kapoor Khan is known for her diva style, but not many are aware that she actually prefers laid back casuals over elaborate gowns.

In an interview once she described her style as, “Very casual or casual chic like jeans and blazers, jeans and tees. I don’t follow trends but wear what’s comfortable to me. What’s comfortable you tend to look chic in that.” And naturally, her maternity fashion is also all about comfort.

Take for instance this divine white A-line long kurta and salwar. While most people would prefer a body-hugging lower or even palazzos, Kareena is starting a new trend with her A-line and salwar combination. And the addition of the silver accessories is only making the rather simple outfit look stunning!

This is perfect for when you enter your later phase of pregnancy and are craving for something casual yet presentable.

#2 Short kurta with cigarette pants

Mira Rajput has a very simple and casual style, thanks to her young age and an innate classy sense of fashion. Her outfits are often subtle and not laden with too many accessories.

So naturally, she followed the same style through her pregnancy and we saw some of most fashionable yet simple Indian outfits. They looked very comfortable yet very presentable and there was one in particular that caught everybody's eye, thanks to her pregnancy glow!

The couple were seen together at actor Preity Zinta's wedding reception and Shahid later shared this picture on his Instagram account pointing at his doting wife's glow, but take a look at her outfit.

Perfect for early onset of the rainy season and laden with a floral print, it is really a great choice for expecting mums who do not want their bump to be the focus. Remember that prints always camouflage bumps and are a great bet for later stages of pregnancy.

#3 Anarkali with palazzos

When Kareena Kapoor Khan's pregnancy was still unannounced and she was busy promoting her flick Udta Punjab, she sported this gorgeous blue tribal print anarkali.

Her unbeatable pregnancy glow and a fantastic combination of silver accessories made this combination a sure shot winner of maternity fashion. Her gorgeously done hair and flats also added sheen to the overall look.

This look is perfect for early pregnancy, since the tailoring is cinched towards the waist and loose down below. This gives expecting mums enough reasons to look smart and be free and comfortable, and yet not look 'bumpy'

If you are a busy working woman and are also expecting, this is really a great pick. Plus, do not forget, pregnancy is a great time to experiment with Indian clothes since it offers so many options.

#4 Silk straight kurta and straight pants

New mum Genelia Deshmukh sported a very clean and smart look in this green straight silk kurta and paired it with white straight pants during the early stages of her second pregnancy.

With her hair tied back and minimal accessories, she looked ready to take on the day. And while her general style is also simple and casual, this look was a great pick for a casual evening out.

For working expecting mothers, this is another great office wear option. It gives you enough room in the waist area so your bump is not visible and the pants give you enough comfort to move around freely. We're also digging the way she has used the do ladi necklace.

#5 A-line and asymmetric kurta

A photo posted by Kareena Kapoor Khan (@therealkareenakapoor) on Aug 22, 2016 at 9:41am PDT

In her early second trimester, Kareena Kapoor Khan went out for a casual lunch with her friends wearing this bright blue asymmetric kurta with high palazzos. Not only did this look turn out to be a bestseller maternity outfit, but it also lent Kareena some more glow (if that's possible)!

She looked radiant and the bright colour added some much needed respite from the usual understated western maternity wear. She didn't accessories and let the outfit speak for itself. This is another great option for when you are not interested in showing off your bump.
