When Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan announced the name of their baby boy, the internet broke into a frenzy as Taimur was not quite the modern name that their fans were expecting.

But Taimur is not the only name that made headlines in 2016. Here are the other unique celeb names that ruled this year. Read on to know what they mean.

The most-talked about baby of 2016 was finally out and the celeb parents chose a really unique name for the baby. News reports say that it was Saif who decided upon a name for his baby boy. Bebo had even mentioned in an interview that most likely Saif will choose a historic name as he is obsessed with history.

"We haven't thought of a name for our baby yet. Saif is a historian and would want a traditional old school name,"she had said.

The couple have chosen an interesting Arabic name for their son, which means ‘Iron.’ The news of this unique name was also shared by close friend Karan Johar through a tweet.

After Rani Mukherjee named her daughter ‘Adira,’ which is a combination of her parents’ name, Shahid and Mira followed close on heels and have named their daughter, Misha.

This unique name is also a combination name and includes both the parents’ first few letters- Mi(ra)sha(hid).

3. Rahyl 


Ever since he was born, Riteish and Genelia’s newborn son had been in the news. Born on June 6, the baby is the couple’s second born and is now a 6-months old.

Riteish Deshmukh had announced his little ones name on Twitter and the announcement was made in style as always. This is what he wrote: “RAHYL – The Youngest Deshmukh”.

Rahyl (or Rahil) is derived from Hebrew and means ‘innocent’. It’s also an indirect Quranic name for boys that means ‘traveller’. Now that’s a well-thought name for sure! Hope he is as popular and charming as his dad and elder brother.

Shveta Salve named her baby girl Arya, which has a really sweet meaning. The name has both Sanskrit and Hebrew origins and in sanskrit it means "of nobility and honor; great; truthful". It is also the name of Goddess Parvati, Durga. In Hebrew it means "lioness".

Salman Khan's adopted sister Arpita Khan Sharma also became a mum this year and named her son Ahil. Ahil is an Arabic name that means “great king”, “great leader”, “emperor”, a king or ruler who presides over multiple nations and countries.

6. Reyansh


Shweta Tiwari named her newborn son Reyansh, who was born on November 27. She declared the baby's name is style with a sweet message: “Reyansh Kohli… From the moment they placed you in my arms, you snuggled right into my Soul.”

The couple have chosen a beautiful Hindu name which means ‘ray of light’ and it also means ‘part of Lord Vishnu.’

Roshni Chopra named her second son Reyaan, which is a Hindu name and is another name for Lord Vishnu. It also means fame.
