You must have seen pictures of Kareena and Saif bringing their baby boy home for the first time. While Saif held the little Nawab in his arms, Kareena lovingly touched his forehead and the two greeted and thanked fans and the media from their balcony.
Cut to a few days later, the new parents were visited by some more guests, only this time they had to pay them to leave. Yes, you guessed it right.
The Kapoor family were paid a visit by hijras (transgenders) who came to bless Taimur as well as Kareena and Saif.
This of course, as you all know is not new in India. We have an age-old 'tradition' of hijras visiting a home to bless newlyweds as as newborns, and Taimur was no exception.
The said group descended at Kareena's home just a few days after his birth in December last year, and demanded a hefty sum after blessing the cute munchkin.
Naturally, the family did not say 'no' to the group and gave them the exact amount they demanded.
The crazy amount Kareena and Saif gave the hijras!
And if you're wondering just exactly how much money Kareena and Saif had to shell out to say 'goodbye' to the hijra group, we can assure you that you'll be shocked by the numbers!
The new parents did not hesitate before giving a hefty amount to the group and handed them a whopping Rs 51,000! Yes, you read that right.
Needless to say this amount may not be that big for them, but since they believe in 'buri nazar,' it was the only logical thing for them.
Mum Kareena believes in 'buri nazar'
And given how everybody is falling head-over-heels in love with baby Taimur, he sure is going to need some evil eye for his protection.
In fact, if you recall Saif had spoken eloquently about why he thought sharing Taimur's pictures was better than keeping him locked inside the house all the time. He also spoke about 'buri nazar' that Kareena and the entire Kapoor khandaan believe in.
Talking about why he made Taimur's cute picture his WhatsApp display image even after Kareena's opposed it, he said, "Yes, she was not happy. She was like, “Nazar lag jayegi and all of that”. But agar nazar lagni hoti toh Kareena would be in the hospital by now. I don’t believe in all of that. I didn’t mean to share it. It was my Whatsapp display picture. But it is fine. I don’t plan to hide him. We will have a tough time figuring out how to bring him up. I think Taimur is already a bit of a popular chap. So, I think we will have to teach him to be grounded, as people will watch whatever he does."
So it seems only fair that the concerned mum did not hesitate before letting the hijras bless her son.
Why blessings by hijras is so common among celebs!
Of course, Kareena is not the only celebrity who has invited hijras to her home. There have been many before her and we're sure there will be many after her as well. The reason is simple.
As you know, in India it is believed that blessing by the hijras is auspicious as they are considered messengers of the almighty. In fact, it is also believed that their blessings can ward off evil and 'buri nazar.'
And for a new mother, that is reason enough to allow them to bless her baby.
While Kareena may be a new-age mum, it is quite clear that she also harbours some age-old beliefs. Either way, with a baby as cute as Taimur, we can understand why Kareena gets concerned about that 'buri nazar.'
