Molestation and sexual abuse are something that does not even spare the rich and elite. This was confirmed when actress and daughter of superstar Anil Kapoor, Sonam opened up about the tormenting times when she was molested as a small child. After that Uttaran star, Tina Dattaa also complained about being molested on an airplane.
Now popular television actress Mahi Vij has revealed a shocking incident when she was molested by a man in a nightclub. What even more shocking is that it happened at a popular place and her husband Jay Bhanushali was with her!
"Yes, it was an unfortunate incident. There was a launch of a new happening place owned by a friend. I just went to the restroom with a friend of mine and while coming back, I could feel this man feeling me. I turned around and saw that even after knowing that I have realized his terrible act, he had the audacity to smile or smirk rather," she told a leading entertainment portal.
However, being the power woman that she is, Mahi slapped the man not once but twice before heading to her husband Jay for help.
"I lost it and slapped him hard twice. My friend's boyfriend then told me that he would take care," she adds.
However, the man had fled before she could call for help, she says. "I then rushed to Jay and asked him to confront the guy, but he had vanished by then. I couldn't even lodge a police complaint as he couldn't be identified," said Mahi.
“They pollute our society. I am glad I could give it back to him. My only regret is that he got away before we could nab him," she added.
Staying safe in India
Mahi has set an example for other women on what to do when you are being harassed or molested by someone at a public place. Here are a few things that all Indian women should keep in mind:
1. Keep a pepper spray handy: There are plenty of pepper sprays that you can buy from the market. Always keep it handy in your bag so that you can use it, if the need arises.
2. Always save the police hotline number on your phone: Single women should also have an emergency police hotline number saved on speed dial on their phones, which they can use when in trouble. You must also save numbers of your friends and family members on speed dial.
3. Never venture out alone in the night: If you have to go out very late in the night, it would be a better idea to ask your close friends or a relative to accompany you to be safe and avoid dangerous situations. While that does not lower your probability of being molested, but two is anytime better than one, remember?
4. Don't keep quiet: God forbid, if you happen to face molestation at any place, be it home, work or a public place, do not stay quiet and speak up. Times are changing now and cases of molestation are taken quite seriously these days. So don't think that nothing will happen and do not let him get away with it. Remember to act fast and act now!
