Jodi Bridal is a Toronto-based bridal magazine and it is popular among the Indo- Canadian population. Few days ago, it took to limelight all thanks to a cover photo that displayed a Tamil Bride in unconventional attire.
The beautifully decked bride was shown wearing a sari that had a slit, revealing her legs.

The social media raged over this with some curt remarks.

On the other hand, there were some who appreciated the artistic cover page, as they perceived it.

The model, Thanuska Subramaniam told Now Toronto that: “There is so much Tamil female talent that was behind this cover. It’s sad that all those people who had negative things to say about the cover didn’t want to acknowledge that aspect behind it. People should be proud of that. They should encourage that.”
The photographer behind the cover page, Vipoositha Gnanenthra also commented saying: “My job is to reinvigorate interest in sarees. The saree is a piece of cloth. You can wear it any which way. It’s evolved for so many years because it was so versatile. It kept up with changing times.”
The face of Indian weddings is changing with time and brides have chosen modern alternatives over traditional ones in many areas. Modern Indian brides are conscious about the latest fashion trends and want to look their best on their ‘D- Day’. They are not only independent and firm about their thoughts but don’t have a problem going bold either. Most brides choose to strike a beautiful balance between the tradition and contemporary for their special look.

Take a look at some of the path- breaking trends brides resort to in Indian weddings nowadays…
1. Replacing the bulky gold jewelry with latest fashionable jewelry: Gone are the days when the bride used to be laden with gold ornaments from head to toe. Girls prefer lightweight and trendy jewelry instead of gold these days.

2. Plunging necklines to show off the gorgeous Mangalsutra: Unlike the brides of yesteryear who used to be completely covered, modern brides don’t mind clothes that are more revealing. The necklines are something that they love to experiment with, while adding a subtle neckpiece that enhances their newly worn Mangalsutra.

3. Giving a pass to traditional colors associated with weddings: Traditionally Indian brides have been wearing red, white or yellow in weddings. Nowadays though, brides prefer colours that are in trend and fashion.

4. Leaving the hair open instead of tying them in traditionally popular hairstyles: Lose hair in weddings has been a big taboo traditionally, however, brides are seen breaking this stereotype and styling their hair that suits their face cut and goes with the attire.

5. Bidding Adieu to the ‘Ghunghat’: Instead of hiding their faces behind a ‘Ghunghat’, brides prefer to flaunt their beauty these days. The modern bride is definitely not the coy and shy girl who would follow her husband but a free- spirited woman wanting to lead by example.
