Here's why Sunny Deol shares a non-friendly relationship with his son Karan!

Here's why Sunny Deol shares a non-friendly relationship with his son Karan! Here's why Sunny Deol shares a non-friendly relationship with his son Karan!

"Even if I want to, Karan and I can't be friends," says Sunny Deol as he explains the strange reason.

Actor Sunny Deol has always maintained a cagey silence about his personal life. Whether it be his married life or his kids. But it seems he is willing to share some of his best kept secret, thanks to his son Karan Deol.

The hunky 26-year-old is making his acting debut and papa Sunny couldn't be happier to launch him in his own directorial debut, Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas.

In fact, Deol even shared the big news via Twitter and said he was amazed at how quickly his son grew up.

"Even if I want to, Karan and I can't be friends"

However, even though their relationship looks friendly, shockingly it is anything but! In a candid confession, the 59-year-old shared that he can never become a friend of his children because of a very strange reason. "Even if I want to, Karan and I can't be friends. He shares his secrets with me but maintains a distance. You can call it his reservation or respect towards me. Despite being the new generation boy, Karan maintains a distance. He is also like me. He'll sit with me and then after a while, we fall short of conversations. Whereas on the film's set he treats me like a director only. He's very professional," the Betaab actor told a daily.

He also added that it this distance has developed because of his own relationship with his father and legendary actor Dharmendra.

"I still cannot see eye to eye with my father Dharmendra"

Talking about his relationship with his father, Deol said, "I still cannot see eye to eye with my father Dharmendra. His fear will always remain. Even now, if I'm doing anything wrong, the thought of dad getting its knowledge scares me out."

But a strange fear of their father is not the only thing that keeps him at a distance from dad Dharmendra. He also shared that they do not have much to talk about either.

"Daddy keeps asking us why don't you'll come downstairs and talk to me. Whenever we sit together, we talk for few moments and then there's nothing to talk about. What to talk, just can't understand," shared the shy actor.

Interestingly, even though the two generations do not share a friendly relationship with each other, they are extremely supportive of each other personally as well as professionally.

"Life has come a full circle. My father launched me and now, I am launching my son," shared Deol.

It seems that Deol's are quite traditional and old fashioned and like to keep it that way.

3 old-fashioned values you must teach your kids

And sometimes its nice to impart old-school values in kids. Wondering which ones? Here are a few.

  • Teaching kids to tell the truth: This is a value that is relevant at any age and generation and therefore, can be termed old-school by some. However, it is crucial that parents we promote honesty and truth by appreciating truthfulness and calling out dishonest lies without over-reacting to them.
  • Teaching kids to be more determined: Our grandparents used to encourage us to play outside the house or even engage in challenges that pushed the envelope. However, with the advent of technology we do not push our kids to challenge themselves. Such tasks encourage them to explore their determined side which is a trait that goes a long way.
  • Teaching kids about justice: If you want to internalise a sense of justice, then you will have to encourage them to take action against injustice or what you may consider wrong. For instance, if you feel your child lacked empathy in a particular situation, be proactive and teach them ways to be more empathetic.
