When it comes to food, our kids are spoilt for choices, but did you know most of these choices rank very low on the protein scale?

While you might be paying a lot of attention to the calcium and iron intake of your child, you also need to be watchful about the protein in his daily diet as a protein deficiency can cause serious health problems. Kids with a protein deficiency could develop various symptoms include a protruding belly, thin hair, overall weight loss and discoloured skin and hair. If left untreated, it can lead to stunted growth, mental impairments and severe health issues. Which is why incorporating the recommended daily intake of protein (about 18gms) should be a priority for you. Here is our guide for protein rich foods that you can start giving kids from today!

Protein-packed eggs

Protein-packed eggs

Eggs can be a healthy part of your child’s diet and shouldn’t be avoided altogether. Eggs are packed with protein and also other essential minerals such as iron and vitamin B. One boiled egg a day gives gives a healthy start to your protein-rich day.

Creamy Cottage cheese

Cottage cheese is another good source of protein and will also supply your kids with a good dose of calcium. Since most kids won’t eat cottage cheese straight away, you can mix it with their favourite flavoured yogurt. This will add more flavour and also increase the protein content. Each half cup of cottage cheese contains about 16 grams of protein while each half cup of yogurt has 4-6 grams of protein.

Healthy nuts

Mixed nuts provide an easy way to get a delicious dose of protein in a convenient, ready-to-eat package. Try a mixed bunch for variety and a combo with dried fruits for some added sweetness. The best ones almonds and pistachios, which are loaded with protein.

Banana shake

You can host a protein-rich party for your kids and their friends. Blend 1 medium banana, 1 tablespoon of peanut butter, and 1 cup of chocolate milk with 1 cup of ice for a protein-packed drink. Treat your kids and their friends with this shake.

Power-packed beans

From string beans to chickpeas—beans are an excellent source of plant based protein. When it comes to legumes, lentils are among the winners. They contain about 18 grams of protein per cup when cooked and 230 calories per serving. They are great for anyone who needs a healthy dose of protein every day.
