The power couple of Bollywood celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary today!

They are known as the Power couple of tinsel town and one who give major relationship goals to all of us. Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri complete 25 years of marriage today and 32 years of togetherness. Theirs was a non-conventional marriage, but despite all odds, the couple stuck around and made it work.

Shah Rukh has always given the credit to their successful marriage to Gauri. "I'll tell you something- it's a little difficult to be a movie star's spouse. Our lives don't belong to our partners. They belong to the world. We're called public figures because we no longer have a private life the way it's meant to. To be able to take that for so many years and be able to carve an identity and space for yourself is extremely difficult," he had said in an interview.

A marriage for keeps

Though it was a love marriage, they faced obstacles at every moment. They belonged to different religions and were quite young when they got married. Besides, Shah Rukh was a struggling actor and still trying to make a mark in Bollywood. However, their marriage stood the test of times and survived! This is how they made it work:

1. Love is above all religions

Gauri was a Hindu Brahmin and Shah Rukh a Muslim. Needless to say, Gauri's family was against this marriage from the start and to top it all Shah Rukh wanted a career in films.

“Yes, my parents were obviously not for it because we were so young and then, to take a decision to get married to a person who was going to join films and also from a different religion," Gauri had said in an interview.

However, Shah Rukh and Gauri tried really hard to convince Gauri's parents about the seriousness of their relationship and love. Shah Rukh had even agreed to change his name into a Hindu name of their choice.

Finally, both families agreed and after keeping their relationship a secret for five years, the couple tied the knot on October 25th, 1991.

2. Family matters

Gauri has been Shah Rukh's  formidable guiding light, right from the time he was a struggling actor to today when he is the badshah of Bollywood. Whatever his stature in the outside world, in his private life Shah Rukh has always been a family guy and Gauri was always the focus of his attention, off screen.

“We have known each other for so long, we have surpassed a stage. One of the stages that we have passed is that we don’t need to sit under a moonlit night. I think just passing each other across from the bedroom to the living room is romantic. Love is in the air. We have wonderful children who are a proof that we have a wild, loud, screaming romance going on in the house all day long," he had said in an interview.

3. Friends, lovers, and companions

From being friends to lovers and companions now, Shah Rukh Khan says that he cannot imagine his life without this relationship.

"We've known each other since 1984. That makes it what, almost 30 years? We came to Mumbai right after marriage, for a honeymoon. Initially, we thought we'd give it a try for a year. It's 22 years now.  We have one child who is taller than me now. And my daughter will be taller than Gauri in a year or so I think. And now, we have another one... We have a house and we have a name. I think we've just been sucked up by life and pushed along. I have no idea how to be without this relationship. It's been so long. More than half my life. So it's indescribable. Our lives have changed course so often. Gauri and I have gone through a lot of happenings and there have been a lot of peaks. And I think the peaks have been there so often that we've never had the time to sit and know each other. And it's nice," said Shah Rukh in an interview.

On his anniversary last year, Shah Rukh gave the credit to his successful marriage to Gauri. This is what he wrote on Twitter.

Reports say that Shah Rukh will fly down to India from Budapest, where he is currently shooting for a film to celebrate his anniversary. The couple is also known for throwing lavish Diwali parties and this year the celebrations would be even grander due to their silver jubilee.

As per reports in a newspaper, “This couple hosts a Diwali bash every year. So this year, everyone is expecting it to be a double celebration. The guest list will include people from their inner circle. Gauri is known for being a great host so there is no doubt that she’ll be pulling out all stops to ensure that this will be an evening to remember.”

We wish the couple all the very best and hope they continue to inspire other couples by their love and companionship!
