The lady, who works at the Sindhanur City Municipal Council, was late to work and after a brief argument about it, this male colleague kicked her despite her attempts to save herself. One of the officials at SCMC confirmed that the incident took place on Saturday when only a few staff members were at work because of a holiday and that’s why no one was really aware of what had happened.
Kudos to the lady!
The female employee, victimized in this way, was not in a mind to keep quiet and lodged a police complaint against the man, after which he has been arrested and a case is registered.
Here’s how working women can empower themselves against any type of victimization…
- Be assertive: Ladies, it all starts when you come across as a soft target, so don’t be one. Be firm in your dealings with your colleagues, both, men and women. This will help in building your image as a strong person and people will think twice before messing around with you.
- Fight back: Whenever you find yourself in an unwanted situation, never succumb. Fight back in whichever way possible and convenient to you. Remember that hitting back in defense is legally acceptable and resort to these methods to save yourself. Instead of retracting, you can charge back on the person trying to intimidate you.
- Report such incidences: Most important is to take action against such acts of violence. Immediately report the incidence to senior officials and also lodge a police complaint. This will send across a message to the attacker that you are not going to live in fear but have the guts to take necessary action against them.
- Never lose confidence: When you take action against such anti- social people, they might turn more aggressive and try to threaten, bully you. Stand strong in your own power and don’t lose confidence.
- Have basic legal knowledge: Last but definitely the most important, you must have knowledge of working women’s rights. Some of the important laws that you must know about are the Factories Act, Maternity Benefit Act, Equal Remuneration Act, Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act, Shops and Establishments Act, Employee’s Provident Fund & Miscellaneous Provisions Act, Employee’s State Insurance Act, Payment of Gratuity Act, Payment of Bonus Act and so on.
