No country for women: 100-year-old woman raped in UP, dies

No country for women: 100-year-old woman raped in UP, diesNo country for women: 100-year-old woman raped in UP, dies

According to initial investigations, the woman was unwell and died after she was raped by a man

In another shocking news report coming from Uttar Pradesh, a 100-year-old woman was raped by a man so brutally that she died.

According to initial investigations, the woman was unwell and died after she was raped by a man. The culprit was drunk when he committed the crime.

The incident occurred in Jaani village in Meerut district. It is said that the culprit identified as one Ankit Punia was in a drunk state and just as he tried to escape he was caught by the deceased woman's brother.

The woman was sick...

The old woman used to live with her brother in the village. When the woman resisted and cried her cries were heard and the neighbours along with her brother came to rescue. The youth, Ankit Punia was caught by the mob and handed over to police.

Even after being caught red-handed while committing this ghastly act on an elderly woman, Punia had the gall to deny all accusations and said he was innocent.

The police have assured that relevant action will be taken against the youth who committed the crime and sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC) will be applied to him.

No country for women

rape

The utterly disgusting incident has once again highlighted the plight of women in a country like India. It is indeed shameful that here females, whether it is an infant or an elderly, are not spared by pervert men.

While data from crime branches in metro reveals that on an average half a dozen rapes occur daily in a metro such as Delhi, it is only any one's guess that the figures may be much more in interiors. Many cases in India go unreported for fear of stigma as well as delayed justice.

The Delhi police reported 140 cases of rape this year in January alone. In Uttar Pradesh, where the incident occurred, according to crime bureau records, there was a 161% increase in rape cases last year.

With statistics so dismal it is anyone's guess how unsafe women feel in India and cases like these just highlights the extent with which the minds are polluted.
