Shekhar Kapur and Suchitra Krishnamoorthi's daughter Kaveri is all set to make her singing debut with her debut English single "Did you know".
While it might come as a surprise for many, mum Suchitra Krishnamoorthi says that it was quite natural for her ever since she was born.
"Even her first cry was so melodious. She sang as a toddler, took up music classes at six, wrote her first song, "Did You Know", when she was 11 and recorded it at 12," she say.
Suchitra even jokes and says that she's glad that Kaveri does not sing like her father.
"I'm so glad she sings like me and not like Shekhar. We need to look up the lyrics to figure out what he's usually singing," she laughs.
The singer-actress-writer tied the knot with the filmmaker in 1997. They separated in 2007 and have been on cordial terms ever since.
Kaveri is 15-years-old right now and is already a trained Hindustani and western classical music singer. she even knows how to play the piano and the guitar. She is also seeking admission at London's Royal College of Music or Guildhall School of Music & Drama, or Berklee School of Music in the US, three of the most prestigious music schools in the world.
"After the first single, we're planning to record more of her songs and release them. She writes and sings in English so the compositions are fresh," Suchitra says in an interview.
"She has never had any fear of expression. I look at her as a musical prodigy whose creative decisions are entirely her own. When I suggest something, she won't even change a bridge or a word unless she's convinced," Suchitra adds.
Kaveri says she always wanted to be a singer.
"I realised writing and singing are the only things I'll never get bored of. My song-writing is largely inspired from situations and people around me and features versions of personal experiences," she says.
