Shocking! Sexual abuse at the hands of dentist husband forces Jaipur blogger to commit suicide!

A 27-year-0ld blogger from Udaipur hanged herself on June 2 after suffering severe mental and sexual torture of her well-educated dentist husband, Dr Himanshu Gupta

A 27-year-0ld blogger from Udaipur hanged herself on June 2 after suffering severe mental and sexual torture of her well-educated dentist husband, Dr Himanshu Gupta, say news reports. This case once again brings into light the hypocrisy of the so-called modern society we live in!

Dr Bharat Gadhavi, a Porbandar-based government medical officer and his dentist son Dr Himanshu, have been arrested in Udaipur for allegedly driving the latter's wife Karnika Singh to suicide. Karnika's father Bharatendra Singh lodged a complaint at the Udaipur police station and have accused the in-laws of mentally harassing her.

On Monday, the Udaipur police also recorded the statements of another local private doctor Dr Bharat Lakhani and his wife Dr Kailash, a gynaecologist. Karnika's father has alleged that she was subjected to several tests without her consent, which left her traumatised according to news reports.

"We have also got all records of the tests conducted on Karnika Singh at Lakhani's clinics," said Mangilal Panwar, an officer from Shuker Thana police station where the case has been registered. The father-son duo has been booked for abetment of suicide. Himanshu works at a private medical college in Udaipur and his father Bharat Gadvi is the chief medical and health officer (CMHO) in Porbandar.

Karnika got married in January 2016

Karnika got married to Himanshu on January 25 this year and was living with him in Udaipur.

"Soon after the marriage, Himanshu's behaviour changed suddenly and he started torturing her mentally. My daughter was an independent person and was working at a company in Udaipur as a blog writer, " he said.

"She was dealing with sophisticated persons in her job but Himanshu is of a very suspicious nature and constantly kept a watch on all her movement. If she visited any of her friends, he would ask her to send the location on google maps," Karnika's father told a leading national daily over the phone. Karnika had completed her masters in journalism from Jaipur.

"Last week, Karnika and Himanshu had gone to Porbandar on the request of her father-in-law Bharat Gadhvi. However, she was forced to undergo trans-vaginal test without her consent which she found extremely humiliating. She even narrated this trauma to her mother. She returned to Udaipur on June 1 and told her mother and some friends in the US too that she was unable to bear the torture any more. She also wanted a divorce. The next day she committed suicide," her grieving father said.

Her cousin brother Rahul Singh said, "We came in touch with the Gadhvi family through some community members. We felt that Karnika would be happy in Gujarat as women have much more liberty there as compared to orthodox Rajasthan. But we have been proved wrong."

Sister writes emotional letter

Friends say that Karnika's husband and in-laws are currently in police custody but have a 90 per cent chance of being let off owing to their highly placed political contacts.

Meanwhile, Karnika's sister Devika has written an emotional letter to the media in which she narrates the unbearable pain suffered by their parents after losing their elder daughter.

We really can't say what would happen to the Gadhvis. However, all we can say is that it's high time daughters-in-law are treated as members of the family and not just a housemaid or as a woman whose only job is to produce babies. They deserve the same respect and dignity as the daughters and other members of the family.
