It is safe to say that mum Shilpa Shetty Kundra has changed the landscape of healthy lifestyle in India. Her ability to connect with parents and youngsters alike have helped encourage more people to adopt healthier food and living habits.

So it's no doubt that her every health advice is taken seriously by mums. And this time she came out in full force with her own mother to share a childhood secret from her mum's kitchen.

Dish close to Shilpa's heart

The 41-year-old mum invited her own mother into her kitchen and the two prepared Neer Dosa, which is a dish close to Shilpa's heart. She also shared that it the heathiest breakfast dishes one can prepare, especially for kids.

The two ladies cooked up a storm and showed their fans how to make this simple dish at home. "Every mother has that one recipe that gets passed on to her kids. And today my mother is accompanying me in preparing my favourite dish- Neer Dosa. I would have it not only for breakfast but also for lunch and even dinner," she shares.

So if you're wondering how to prepare this dish, here's a low down on the ingredients you need.


  • Soaked white rice, 1 glass
  • Salt, 1 tbsp
  • Ghee
  • Iron pan
  • Mint or coconut chutney (garlic, green chillies, salt, water, lemon juice, mustard seeds, urad dal, curry leaves)


  • Soak white rice for one or two hours and blend with one glass of water to make a paste.
  • Now lightly coat the iron pan with ghee and spread the batter evenly on it.
  • Put a lid on the pan and do not turn it upside down.
  • Once it's steamed and cooked well from one side, pick it up and put it on a sieve so it can breathe.
  • To prepare the chutney, add one cup grated coconut, garlic piece, salt, lemon juice and water into a blender.
  • Now you move on to prepare a tadka for the chutney. For this, fry mustard seeds, urad dal and fresh curry leaves in 2 tbsp oil. Add finely chopped garlic to it and as you do this, take the pan off the heat so that the ingredients do not burn. Once it turns golden brown, add it to the blended coconut chutney.

Benefits of Neer Dosa

  • Basmati white rice has very low saturated fat, cholesterol and sodium and is a good source of Manganese.
  • It is also gluten-free and helps to overcome constipation.
