If you were disappointed with the few public holidays that you got in 2016, it's time to cheer up as 2017 has numerous long weekends and holidays for you to plan a family vacation.
The first big one is in January itself on Republic Day. April has three long weekends and August gives you a chance to take the entire Diwali week off. Yes, that's right. Read the complete holiday list:

1. 26th January extended weekend: In 2017, 26th January is on a Thursday, which means that you can take leave on 27th January and plan for an extended weekend getaway.
2. Mahashivratri weekend in Feb: Mahashivratri next year is on 24th February which falls on a Friday and that could be another opportunity to sneak out to a picturesque place with your family.

3. The long Holi weekend in March: Holi next year is on 11th March, which is again on a Monday and that means you get three days off. It can also be an ideal time to visit the north of India as the weather becomes quite pleasant compared to other hot and humid parts of India.
4. Gudi Padwa weekend: If you work in Maharashtra, you have another long weekend in March in the form of Gudi Padwa which falls on the 28th, which is a Tuesday. Take an off on Monday and you get four days to visit your favourite holiday spot.

5. Good Friday and Labour Day weekends in April: The best month of 2017 is April as it has three long weekends. The first in is on Ram Navami that is on April 4th and is a Tuesday.
But, that's not all after Ram Navami there is a four-day break from 13th April to 16th April. 13th April (a thursday) is Vaishakhi, 14th April is Ambedkar Jayanti. April ends with another long weekend as Labour Day is on May 1, which is a Monday.
6. Eid Weekend in June: Ramzan Eid is on 26th June which is a Monday and gives you another opportunity to take some time off with family.
7. The holiday bonanza in August: August has the maximum number of holidays for you that begin from 14th August (a Monday) that happens to Janamashtami. Independence Day is just after that which means you get a four day weekend again.

August also has Parsi New Year holiday on the 18th, which can be taken as an optional off.
25th August which is a Friday is Ganesh Chaturthi and another long weekend!
8. October holiday fun: Gandhi Jayanti, which is a National holiday, falls on October 2 that is a Monday. Yes, it is in 2017. After that Dhanteras is on 16th October which is a Monday and Diwali is on October 18, a Wednesday. This means that if you can, then you can take the entire week off!

9. Christmas weekend in December: While this year Christmas and New Year are on a Sunday, next year they fall on a Monday, which means that you have two long weekends again!
