Sabudan, the very humble Indian food, which is also known as a fasting food in India, has many health benefits that will specifically help you through your pregnancy months.

In an earlier post, we had shared about why sabudana, or sago, is so good for your baby, and why you should include it in your baby’s food. In today's article, we would talk about why eating sabudana during pregnancy is beneficial for you and your baby.

Sabudana is definitely loaded with a lot of healthy nutrients and can be digested very easily, which makes it one of the best first foods for your little one.

Whether you are pregnant for the first time, or already have children and are now waiting to welcome your new baby, it is important that you take good care of your diet and overall health.

Sabudana, the very humble Indian food, which is also known as a fasting food in India, has many health benefits that will specifically help you through your pregnancy months.

Health benefits of sabudana during pregnancy

4 reasons why you SHOULD be eating more sabudana during pregnancy

1. Keeps your digestion smooth: Sabudana has a kind of cooling effect on your digestive system and helps to improve your digestion, and prevents constipation. Most women complain of constipation during pregnancy, and in addition, they also feel heartburn and acidity.

Constipation also makes you feel bloated and uncomfortable. Sabudana gets digested very easily by your body and enables your system to properly flush out toxins from the body.

2. Great way to start the day with energy: Sabudana contains a good amount of carbohydrates which means that if you eat it in your breakfast, your day will start with a good boost of energy.

It provides almost instant energy, and will help you move through the pregnancy months without feeling too tired or exhausted, another issue that a lot of pregnant women face.

Also, if you have a baby to care for already, or have other duties to tend to, eating this will not just help you perform those without feeling too stressed out, but will make sure that you are full for longer.

3. Prevents birth deformities in unborn babies: Did you know that sabudana is a rich source of vitamin B complex and folic acid, which are very important to prevent any birth deformities in your unborn baby? These two components will ensure that your baby is able to grow healthy and that the development in the womb is happening the way it is supposed to be.

4. Helps you gain weight: If your doctor has mentioned that your weight gain is not as it is supposed to be during pregnancy, adding sabudana to your diet can help. As it is so rich in carbohydrate, it will help to boost your weight gain during these months.

Now that you know how healthy it is, try having sabudana in variations such as sabudana khichdi, sabudana soup, sabudana chaat, sabudana upma and so on.
