Revealed! Here's why Saif Ali Khan and Kareena named their son Taimur!

"Of all the names I ran by Kareena, she liked this one the best."

When Kareena and Saif Ali Khan named their baby Taimur, not only their fans, but the whole world as well was a little shocked and unhappy with the choice considering the name was little old fashioned.

Besides, history states that Taimur(Timur) was a cruel Turkish ruler who not just slaughtered tens of thousands of Hindus in Delhi, but massacred countless Muslims in Iran and Turkey.

This just started the whole controversy on social media with everyone questioning why Kareena and Saif chose such a controversial name for their first born. So much was the stir that Rishi Kapoor, Kareena's uncle, had to jump in and slam all the trolls.

However, not once did Kareena and Saif officially gave any statement to clarify why they had chosen such a unique name for the baby. And rightly so, because at the end of the day, it is the parents right to give a name of their choice to their baby.

But it looks like Saif could not take it anymore and decided to reveal the real reason of choosing their baby's name Taimur.

“I’m aware of the heritage of the Turkish ruler and my son was not named after him. He was Timur, my son is Taimur. Perhaps the root is similar but it’s not the same name. Taimur is an ancient Persian name meaning iron. Both my wife and I liked its sound and the meaning," he told a leading news daily.

Saif goes on to say that Kareena liked the name as it was really strong.

"In fact, of all the names I ran by Kareena, she liked this one the best because it’s beautiful and strong. Taimur was the name of a boy he’d grown up with and a cousin too. It’s an old family name like Sara who was also named after a cousin I admired," he adds.

He also said that he doesn't really care about the trolls.

"I should have added a disclaimer, as they do in the movies, that any resemblance to any person, living or dead, is purely coincidental… Yes, there were some people who raised some objections but obviously just to look at medieval history and to make value judgments is, I think, ridiculous, and a lot of people have said that on my behalf. I feel quite confident that we don’t live in a right-wing society. As yet, India is still liberal and people are still open-minded," he said.
