Good news! Milk delivery service for babies is now available on all Indian trainsGood news! Milk delivery service for babies is now available on all Indian trains

Milk delivery will take place in hygienic, spill-proof packages

If you're travelling on a train with your baby, don't worry about carrying food for him. Because milk delivery in this popular locomotive has just become a reality. Yes, you read that right!

New parents' train journey has just become easier, thanks to RailYatri.in who are now delivering milk on order. You'll get the delivery right at your berth and don't even have to step out.

The private service providers, who have so far successfully delivered meals on train have now added another target audience on their list- babies!

How will it work?

If you're a new parent and are looking for all milk, all you have to do is order a 500ml or the amount you require via the RailYatri.in website or their application.

Once placed, you'll receive the packet of warm milk reportedly in a "specially designed spill-proof thermo package." A 500ml packet will cost you Rs 79 and it will conveniently be delivered to you at your berth presumably from the next station.

Why has the service started now?

On several occasions, newborns have had to suffer because of lack of food availably for them in trains. In fact, the Indian Express report quoted a data that says "in more than 80 per cent cases, trains are ill-equipped to serve baby food or milk to passengers."

This was the primary reason for RailYatri.in to start this service for babies.

Manish Rathi, co-founder and CEO, RailYatri.in also reiterated, “Train travel can have some severe hurdles when you are travelling with an infant. Our effort is to make sure no mother goes through the agony of seeing her hungry baby cry. Keeping such emergencies in mind, we will now deliver warm milk for babies in hygienic, spill-proof packages. We already serve great meals for the entire family, so why should the little ones’ need be unattended.”

What about the quality of this milk?

Rathi explained that the company is taking special care to deliver the best quality milk to parents and the babies. “We have taken special care to deliver milk in the best condition, with emphasis on hygiene and quality packaging,” he added.

Travelling with a baby, whether on train or in planes can be a difficult task for new parents. But it seems now the problem is half-way sorted with this service in place. However, food is not the only item you'd need when travelling with a little one.

5 things you need while travelling with a baby, other than food

milk delivery

  • Carry extra pair of clothes in your baby bag as well. You can also keep them in plastic bags that you can carry if you do not have a changing bag.
  • While packing your bags, make sure you carry a first-aid kit, which includes prescription medicines and ointments for scrapes and cuts among other things.
  • If your baby is still very young and is breastfeeding, then you must keep a few sanitised bottles for extra feeds. If however, he is on formula, you can carry foods items and a hot thermos and extra bottled water.
  • Carry all the travel gear such as the pram, or baby carrier whenever you are travelling with a baby. This includes a diaper bag and a changing bag.
  • Help the baby set a napping schedule so it's easier for him to doze off in case your journey is at night and long.
