3 Reasons Why Your Child Needs Your Undivided Quality Time3 Reasons Why Your Child Needs Your Undivided Quality Time

Are your kids happy with the attention you give them? Or are they craving for more? Here’s what was revealed in an exciting campaign by Kores.

Parents strive to give their children every possible material comfort. But in doing this, they may unknowingly compromise on spending quality time with your children, which really should be a priority.

You may feel  you are giving your child enough attention despite being busy. But do your kids feel the same way?

Kores wanted to find out from kids themselves.

The 10 Minutes With Mumma Papa Campaign by Kores

Kores invited a few older kids to a game of role-play where the Kores volunteers played the role of the child; the children played their parents. The game was recorded and shown to the parents later on.

Kids revealed their parents were always mentally busy even when with them. Whether it was phone calls, messages or household chores, parents ended up compromising on this time. After seeing their kids’ role play, parents realized that quality time is not just physical presence but also requires mental involvement in what the child is doing.

Undivided, quality time with your children: How does it help your little one?

Here’s why it is crucial for you to give your child complete attention when with them.

1. Helps build self-esteem: Spending quality time makes your child feel valued and builds a positive sense of self-worth in them.

2. Develops positive behaviour: National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse discovered that teenagers who had less time with their families at meal time were more likely to smoke, drink and do drugs.

3. Encourages communication: Quality time also sets the premise for good communication as children get a chance to open up and share their feelings with you.

Bonding with your kids: How to make the most of it?

Quality time with your children can also hold important cues into how your child’s personality is shaping up. When there is good communication, you can know your child much better.

  • Helps you to know your child in a special way
  • Makes you aware of what your child is thinking or feeling
  • Makes you aware of the innermost dreams and desires, ambitions and aspirations, fears and phobias of your child

With so much information, you can help your child evolve into a strong and independent personality. If at all you come across anything worrisome you can nip it in the bud itself.

These activities help you enjoy quality time with your children

Dedicate some time of your day to engage in different activities with your kids.

Outdoor activities like sports are crucial for your child’s healthy growth, learning, development and wellbeing. While younger kids can engage in free play activities like running, older kids need structured play for an overall development. Enjoy their favourite sport with them like football, cricket or badminton.

3. Exploring art with Kores Do It Together kit:

Kores has come up with an interesting and exciting Do It Together kit where kids and parents can spend some time on bonding over art. Take a look.

Bonding-time tips for parents

  • Give importance to quality over quantity. Even if it is only half an hour in the day, make sure you are giving complete attention to your child in that time.
  • Be a good and patient listener. Also, listen beyond what they are saying. Their gestures and expressions may give you a lot of information.
  • Get to know about their interests and share yours. Find common activities that you can both enjoy.
  • Playtime with parents is important according to research. So, participate in your child’s play.
  • Use positive words and affirmations to discipline your little one.
