Post-pregnancy diet while breastfeeding: Expert’s advice

Nutritionist, Meghna Joshi shares that she advises her clients to eat pretty much everything. But she surely emphasizes the portion control.

Apart from that when it comes to post-pregnancy diet while breastfeeding, she ideally suggests that new mums should avoid alcohol. This is mainly because your baby’s liver is too immature to digest alcohol. And it can lead to problems to the baby. But in case a new mum wants to, an eight-hour gap is required in alcohol consumption and your next feed.

Celebrity chef and mum Amrita Raichand gives the example of her friend who is wonderfully managing to breastfeed her baby with proper gaps and expressed milk while occasionally enjoying a drink at parties. But at the same time, she also shares that she was herself totally off alcohol and chose to exclusively breastfeed her baby. She adds that these are individual choices and as long as proper care is being taken to keep the baby healthy, new mums should trust their way.
