In pics: Take a look inside Raveena Tandon's palatial Mumbai home

14 Jul, 2017

After almost three years of work, mum Raveena Tandon finally finished designing the home of her dreams and it is absolutely breathtaking!

Amidst the hustle-bustle of the busy city of Mumbai is a grandiose house named 'Neelaya,' which literally means 'mansion.' This is the 'humble' abode of actor and mum Raveena Tandon Thadani.

She resides in this gorgeous mansion with her husband, her two kids (her adopted elder daughters are now married) and her in-laws.

She describes her home as a fusion between modern and natural and has influences of Moroccan, European and South Indian styles. And once you are inside you'll understand what she means.

So what's the wait?

Click' Start Gallery' to see her beautifully done up home and take some inspiration if you love it, just as we do!

The spiritual entrance

As you enter the house, you'll notice a huge area where Raveena has installed a grand Shivling. You can tell that this family is not quite spiritual, but it's only because of their love for nature.

While speaking to Filmfare about her mansion Raveena explained, "I wanted to bring the outdoors into the indoors. In a city like Mumbai, a green cover is rare. You don’t see plants; you don’t hear birds chirping around. But in my house, you will hear birds. This is what I always wanted – to be able to wake up in the morning and hear birds singing and to throw open my windows to see a green patch and lovely flowers.”

If nature and spiritualism influence the outdoors, the indoors are dominated by European, Moroccan and South Indian styles.

But this took the family three years to put together. “It took us two to three years to get the whole place working. Anil and I had a lot of fights too. But finally, when we sat together with a glass of wine we were like ‘yeah, we did a good job’," she shares.

The mum insists that the family was keen on having a lot of nature within the home and so they let the trees around grow and some even go through their roof!

She explains, “You can see the branches coming through the roof. There are 13-14 coconut trees; we enjoy the sweetest coconut water throughout the year. Then, we have a chickoo tree, a mango tree and papaya trees as well."

The couple has separate places to sit and entertain friends and so it quite often. They even have an entertainment room with a big television.

“It’s a den for Anil to hang out with his buddies, when cricket or football matches are on. Kids use it as a play area during house parties," shares Raveena who let the entertainment magazine into her home.

The couple has incorporated several art pieces accumulated from across the world. In fact, their home houses some of the finest works by famous painters such as Paresh Maiti and Thotta Vaikuntham.

Apparently, Raveena quite the art aficionado and loves collecting eclectic pieces for her home.

During the interview Raveena explained that they designed separate themes for separate rooms and it has worked wonderfully for their home.

“My mother- in-law’s room has a European/French decor. It has a lot of crème, beige and gold elements," she says.

She further adds, "One guest room is all black, grey and silver and the other one is done up in stone and marble. The kids’ (Rasha and Ranbir) room looks bright and sunny with wooden flooring in the bathroom. “My bedroom and balcony have many plants. The balcony is my favourite part of the house. When my friends come over, we sit in the balcony and gossip over coffee.”

Well, it seems that Raveena's palatial home is a grand mixture of humble and luxurious and has the perfect blend of dramatic and natural.

But what she loves the most about her home is not the material items they have on display, but the warmth that all the family members bring to it.

“It’s not the walls but the people who live in a home that contribute to the positive vibes. It’s the laughter of my children, the goodwill of my friends, the warmth we share as a family that adds to the feeling of well-being," says the doting mum.
