There is no greater joy for a parent than to bring home their baby. And right now, director-producer Karan Johar is feeling the same.

After two long months of procrastination and waiting, the emotional and visibly happy new dad was able to pick up his premature babies in his own hands and bring them home.

Johar, who became a single father with the birth of his twins- Roohi and Yash via surrogacy, shared the good news of their birth earlier in the month. But what he did not share was that his babies were premies and critically underweight.

The twins had been recuperating in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) of the Surya Hospital in Mumbai. But now the proud new dad has finally brought them home.

After a month of their birth, Johar announced that he became a father through a heartfelt note, which he incidentally also shared on his Twitter handle.

He wrote as a new parent his priority will be his babies and that he will take the help of family and friends to raise them as best he can.

"My work, travels and social commitments would have to take a back seat and I am prepared for that. By the grace of God, I have the most caring and supportive mother who will be an integral part in the upbringing of her grandchildren and of course, friends who are family," he shared, albeit hiding that the babies were born in the seventh month and had to be placed in the NICU for a good two months.

But only a day before he was to take them home, Johar revealed the real reason of why his babies were still in the hospital.

In his extremely emotional note he started by sharing that it was a medical marvel that allowed him to become a parent.

"I have previously shared the wonderfully exciting news of the birth of my children, Roohi and Yash. None of the many overwhelming emotions that I am currently feeling as I take my baby steps into parenthood would have been possible without the marvels of medicine and the progress it has made today," he wrote.

He revealed, "My children were born two months premature and worryingly underweight. Like any person in this situation and on the brink of fatherhood, my heart sank."

Johar also added that seeing his babies in the hospital was the greatest ordeal he had ever seen. "Knowing that there were complications with my babies' birth owing to how soon it was, I was terrified. All I wanted to do was hold them and protect them but they needed to be in the NICU. It was painful to see how tiny they were... Thankfully, I had a great support system. Roohi and Yash were in the hands of the most competent and patient doctors. Something that had its roots in an ordeal, soon turned into an experience that I will never forget," he shared.

The new dad was seen taking his twins. While he held baby Roohi close to his heart, his friend held Yash close to hers.

The babies also looked visibly healthy and stable in their dads arms and Johar couldn't have looked more content and happy.

Of course, a big reason for his contentment was the fact that he had faith in the experts and most importantly in his babies.

"Premature babies, when provided with the right kind of care, have just as good of a shot of making it, as babies born on time. If your baby is a preemie, don't be discouraged. Seek help...

If your baby is born premature, don't lose faith, don't lose heart. I can only share my own experience and hope someone takes heart from it. I feel blessed to have had the care my children received while at the NICU and for all the prayers and support I had - but I urge anyone in the same situation to remember that your baby has the best chance of a long, happy life, too. Don't lose hope," he wrote.

While there were two months for Karan to care for his premies and visit them at the hospital, he also utilised that time to prepare a nursery for his babies.

Speaking to a leading daily about the uniqueness of his baby nursery he shared, "When I made nursery for my kids, I made sure that I have music playing in that room all the time. I want them to grow up with music."

So apart from the crib and the necessary items such as a baby monitor and such, Karan has also installed speakers for the babies to hear the music he loves.

His explanation is, "They should learn and live with the music I grew up on. Because they are my children and they have to love the music I love because they have to love me."

Johar who has long harboured the desire to become a parent recently shared his candid reaction when he saw Roohi and Yash for the first time.

"I didn't even realise that tears were rolling down my face because I just could not believe that there were two pieces of me staring at me, vulnerable, innocent and all piped and tubed up," he said.

Well, we wish this happy trio the very best and look forward to some unique parenting techniques Johar may employ in the future.
