Why all parents MUST know about Ghazal Yadav, the 7-year-old who died in school after a Karate session!

Why all parents MUST know about Ghazal Yadav, the 7-year-old who died in school after a Karate session! Why all parents MUST know about Ghazal Yadav, the 7-year-old who died in school after a Karate session!

Ghazal suffered a massive head injury during a Karate bout.

My five-year-old daughter and me were generally sitting at the study table. She was finishing her homework and I was just going through some breaking news stories, which we all do in our free time.

Suddenly, I came across this shocking piece of news that made my jaw drop. I couldn't believe what I had just read and I suddenly told my daughter," That's why you should tell your teacher the moment you get hurt, no matter how big or small it might be!"

Yes, that's what happened with Ghazal Yadav, a seven-year-old student from Delhi Public World School in Greater Noida, who also happened to be a Karate champ.

She had one of her Karate bouts in her school on February 2 during which she suffered massive head injuries and collapsed on the floor. She died on her way to the hospital due to excessive bleeding, say reports.

Parents blame school for negligence

However, the parents feel that their daughter died due to negligence as the school authorities did not take their daughter to the hospital immediately after she started complaining of a headache. While Ghazal's father was informed by the school he says that he was asked to take the child home as she was complaining of headache.

Why all parents MUST know about Ghazal Yadav, the 7-year-old who died in school after a Karate session!

But, he couldn't leave immediately as he was in the office. After half an hour he received a call again. “After half an hour I received another call. The school officials informed me that Ghazal was bleeding from the nose and that she was being admitted in a Kailash Hospital, ” Yadav said.

Yadav says that Ghazal was injured during the Karate training in the school, but surprisingly that the school had no medical safeguards or facilities.

"The school made the first call to her mother who's a housewife. In the first call, they said Ghazhal (sic) is having a headache and either you pick her up or we will drop her home. After 10 minutes, her mother received another call saying that she is suffering from headache and we (school) are taking her to the hospital and asked her father to be in the hospital. Her father reached the hospital within 10 minutes of receiving this information but doctor said she has passed away on her way to the hospital. School management said that she started bleeding from her nose on her way to hospital in the ambulance," said Ghazal's uncle Shanker Yadav to a leading online news website.

"She had head injuries. She was admitted in the ICU and we tried our best to save her. She had suffered blood loss and succumbed to her injuries," said a spokesperson from Kailash hospital, where the child was taken for treatment.

Lesson for all parents

Ghazal's case definitely is a warning for all parents like me and why they should ask their child to run for help whenever they get hurt, no matter how small the injury might be. After this incident, I told the following things to my daughter to make sure she raises an alarm in case of an emergency. Perhaps, you should discuss them with your child as well:
1. Run to your teacher whenever you get hurt and do not think that it's just a small bruise. Even a small injury can turn out to be a big problem.2. Never to indulge in hitting or violent behaviour when playing with your friends. Discourage your friends from doing so and complain to your teacher if someone in school deliberately hits you.

3. Watch out for your friends and tell your teacher if you feel your friend is unwell or complaining of uneasiness.

4. Don't wait for the teacher to come to you for help. Run to her or any school attendant who is near you.

5. If they ask you to wait, but you feel that you are seriously unwell be persistent and tell them over and over again. Do not ever stay quiet, until they help you.

6. Memorise your mummy and daddy's number and ask your teacher to call one of them. Tell her that you know her number so that she wastes no time in going through school records.

7. If you've got a small injury, inform your parent about the injury when you're at home to make sure that it heals on time.
