Explaining the hush- hush wedding, Narayani commented that, "Honestly, both of us didn't want to get married. We actually got married because one day we were wondering 'Why don't we want to tie the knot, given that the two of us want to be together always?' It was rather strange. This thought came to us one day and we called the registrar the next day. I was dressed in jeans and a T-shirt and had only my mother and a few close friends at the wedding. We did not want to blow it out of proportion."
Many couples are nowadays opting for unglamorous, simple weddings. According to some recent news reports, Ranjeet Ranjan, an MP from Bihar has also proposed a bill that would legally curb the extravagant wedding expenses, putting a limit of 5 lakhs. Many youngsters welcomed the thought while it is still quite far from being a law.
Here are some ideas for unconventional wedding celebrations to add more meaning to your big day…

Celebrate your day with the less privileged: These days couples are more socially aware and choose to involve an NGO in their wedding celebrations. There are examples where the newlyweds have invited children from orphanages, stray dogs and senior citizens from old age homes to wedding parties. Now that’s really thoughtful, isn’t it?

Travel with your beau: A lot of young couples love to invest in experiences rather than things like expensive saris or gold jewelry that you can use only occasionally. What better way to gather some experience than taking a world tour with your spouse? Extend that honeymoon and transform it into this one of its kind trip with your better half.

Start a green project: A rather unconventional way to celebrate togetherness would be creating a green patch of land by planting trees on a piece of land. The land will not only be an investment for your future but the trees will also be useful in multiple ways.

Opt for a community wedding: Along with your own wedding you can also host the marriage celebrations of couples from low income groups who cannot afford to do so. Helping such couples start their life together with thoughtful gifts such as utensils, bed and so on is also an excellent way to make your own marriage more meaningful.

Bond with your immediate families: So that both families bond better, couples can also choose to throw a low- key wedding party only for the close family members. This way, the couple will also get to know each other’s relatives much better. You can also plan a destination party for them.
