The third trimester is a different ball game altogether and in this episode of Nine Months, Dr. Shantala Vadeyar throws more light on it.

Pregnant host and author, Meghna Pant, chats with Dr. Shantala Vadeyar of Cloudnine Hospitals. They discuss the last leg of pregnancy, that is, the third trimester. Dr. Vadeyar explains the changes that pregnant mums can expect as they enter this crucial phase of pregnancy. Take a look:

Physical changes during the third trimester of pregnancy:

One of the most dreaded bodily changes that pregnant mums go through is weight gain. Fluid retention in the body leads to swelling. This, in turn, leads to weight gain. However, Dr. Vadeyar also reassures that this is reversible. So, once the baby is born, many new mums can get back to normal weight.

She further mentions that other important changes that pregnant mums may notice are the laxity of joints, pressure on the bladder, increased acidity and heartburns.

Some of the red flags or dangers that pregnant mums need to watch out for during this phase are, reduced fetal movement, preterm labour and any type of bleeding. Dr. Vadeyar shares that there’s a fine line between what is normal and when the situation becomes abnormal. It is important for pregnant mums to understand this difference.

Third Trimester

In the last trimester, doctors advise some important tests.  These are to ensure the wellbeing of the mother and healthy growth and development of the baby. As Dr. Shantala Vadeyar elaborates, doctors may even suggest tests to ensure that a pregnant mum’s frequent urination is not because of urine infection, but because of the pregnancy.

Apart from these important things, Dr. Shantala Vadeyar also shares simple tips to reduce swelling, what foods to eat to facilitate the baby’s development, exercises to achieve flexibility for an easy and normal delivery and so on.

Whether you’re planning to have a baby or already pregnant, do watch this insightful episode of Nine Months for useful tips to sail through this last and crucial, third trimester.
