Newly married Preity Zinta talks about adjusting as a bahu and her inspiring patiNewly married Preity Zinta talks about adjusting as a bahu and her inspiring pati

The candid Preity Zinta shares how life has changed post marriage and what it's like to be a daughter-in-law

The bubbly actor, Preity Zinta broke many hearts when she quietly tied the knot with longtime beau Gene Goodenough. The couple were hitched in a Hindu ceremony on February 29, last year, in Los Angeles, US.

They also followed the private ceremony with a star-studded reception on May 13, in Mumbai.

Needless to say, the Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna star has been loving her new role as a globe-trotting wife and even shares candid pictures with her hubby who works with NLine Energy Inc., a renewable energy development company in LA, as their Senior Vice President in their Product and Finance Department.

Gene has motivated me: Zinta

And, while she has been busy being a wife and a businesswoman she consciously pushed back her acting career. But she now admits that the one person who motivated her to get back to her roots, was in fact, her husband.

Zinta is awaiting the release of her new flick Bhaiyyaji Superhitt with actor Sunny Deol and shared that she wasn't sure of getting back into movies but her husband pushed her.

"I think women are super women. So juggling doesn't bother me so much. I am very happy I am very lucky that I am married to somebody who pushed me back to doing a movie," she shared with a leading daily on the sideline of the Lakme Fashion Show where she was a show stopper for designer Sanjukta Dutta.

Adjustment after marriage wasn't easy for Zinta

The often candid Zinta also shared that adjusting in her new life and her new role as a wife and daughter-in-law wasn't easy. She also shared that she didn't think she'd get back into movies so soon after marriage.

"I had thought I would not do anymore movies and moved to the business side of the story. Yes it has been a little tough to adjust after getting married," she shared.

Change of work preference post-marriage

She also shared that that her preference for roles hasn't changed since her marriage, but she is interested in a particular genre of movies now.

"I don't think about women centric films. I think it's about great story. One of the first films of my career was Kya Kehna which was a women centric movie. But I don't look at films that like that. I think films should have a positive message," shared the Salaam Namaste star.

But more work also means that Zinta will have to continue a long-distance marriage, where she travels for her work and comes back to her Pati Parmeshawar post work.

But how can one work through a long-distance marriage? Here are a few ideas.

Navigating a long-distance marriage

  • Communication: Keeping in touch, whether it is by sharing pictures or day-to-day activities, involving the spouse in major decision-making process is the key to a successful long-distance marriage. One must technology to their advantage and indulge each other whenever possible.
  • Act as though you're together: It's easier to drift apart when you are staying separately from your spouse, so act as though you're both living together. Try to analyse a situation and ask yourself "What would your spouse do?" Share things with each other and make a habit to connect.
  • Work on your vision as a couple: Every couple should work on a vision that includes their achievements and goals in life. So work towards that collectively. You may be a traveller at heart, so include your spouse in your travels whenever possible. Try to figure out why living separately can help you achieve those goals. That'll make it easier to work towards it passionately.
