New mum Kareena Kapoor Khan reveals her desi post pregnancy weight loss diet
It's simple, desi and all Indian women can easily follow the routine
There is no doubt that Kareena Kapoor Khan is the poster girl for breaking stereotypes. Whether it was wearing her baby bump like a badge of honour, working throughout her pregnancy or rejoining work just 45 days post delivery, she's done it all.
And now she's breaking ground with her post pregnancy diet. Laden with ghee, gud and chawal, her unusually desi diet has made everybody sit up and take notice. But it's also a diet routine, which Bebo says is slowly yet gradually helping her lose the 18 kilos she put on during her pregnancy.
The new mum celebrated Taimur's birth with the media and was accompanied by her dietician Rujuta Diwekar for an interactive session on Facebook where she revealed her post pregnancy weight loss plans and gave tips to mothers on how to have a flawless glowing skin after delivery.
"I flaunted my weight till my delivery...I didn't care"
During the interactive session, Bebo revealed that she carried her baby with a lot of love and she wanted to share it with her fans. This also meant having to show her weight gain, but she says she was comfortable and wasn't bothered about what people thought.
"I carried Taimur with a lot of strength and lot of energy and a lot of joy that I was going to share with my fans. I put on 18 kilos but I flaunted it till I reached the hospital. Of course, it’s coming off with love and patience, and the most important thing is that I enjoyed my pregnancy and I ate well," she said adding that she didn't know what to expect post pregnancy but was sure of the fact that she wanted to give all her time to her son.
"Saif and me together want to spend time with Taimur, and I am a lot more energetic, happy and content today," she said.
She also shared she wasn't obsessing over her weight and she is confident that even if it takes time, she'll come back to her normal weight.
"I can’t lose weight overnight. I might do it in six months"
Talking about her weight loss she shared, "Fact is that am not obsessing over what I can’t eat. We need to follow a pattern where we are stronger. I am multitasking, I need my brain not to be ratty. Tired an ratty, I can’t afford to be like that," she said adding that she is working on losing weight now.
"Everything has its place. I’m trying to, it takes time. I can’t do it overnight. I might do it in six months. I want people to understand and accept me in every phase. We’re constantly being monitored. It’s not to lose weight, the idea is to feel happy and energetic. I’m not rushing in to it because in the last nine months, everything inside changed...So we have to start in progression. Right now I’m eating rice in the night and day, we’re preparing the body," she stated adding "I’m feeling great, looking better."
"I wanted to get into Tashan diet. But Rujuta said not to rush. I am eating rice both the times. I will gradually lose weight. I have been eating khichdi and bajra roti, gud (jaggery), one spoon of ghee and a glass of milk every day. This is my food after pregnancy!" she added.
While most people would run away from rice since it's considered fattening, Rujuta Diwekar explained that Kareena is on a rice and desi diet because it will help her get stronger.
"She’s on a diet, which includes rice both time lunch and dinner. Rice also allows you to bring back good bacteria. Because as strenuous as a delivery it may wash out good bacteria so you need to rebuild that environment within the gut, and before you know, you’ve lost weight. People do crash things post pregnancy and that often leads to lifestyle disorders and thyroid and it forces the body to slow down metabolism post pregnancy. We cannot risk forcing the body to feel deprived," revealed Diwekar.

All these foods have also lend her a glowing skin and are helping her body get its strength back.
She also added that pulses have also been an integral part of Kareena's post pregnancy diet.
"A big reason for is not only to include items with amino acid profile, but also for the fibre and more importantly for the minerals. A lot of women feel bloated and it's because of a deficiency of a variety of dals in our diet," said Rujuta who also got her new book cover Pregnancy Notes inaugurated by the new mum.
