Being a celeb parent is not an easy job as you're constantly trying to shield your kids from all the attention, wanted and unwanted, that you receive from the media from all quarters. Also, because you're worried your kids might not be able to handle it.
However, Juhi Chawla is one star mother who makes sure that her kids do not get affected by her star status. Mother to two grown-up kids, Arjun (13) and Jhanvi (16), Juhi says that her kids do not treat her as a celebrity at all.
“They don’t treat me like any star or something. When we are out and some people ask me for an autograph or a photo, I mostly oblige and my kids get upset saying, ‘We can never have any fun with you. You stop for everything and we cannot do anything.’ They don’t even want to go out with me after that," she told in an interview to a leading media daily.

At home, Juhi is just a regular mother who fusses about what goes inside their kids lunch boxes.
“I do make a fuss about what goes in their tiffin boxes and I’m concerned about whether everything is okay at school or is there any coaching that they need. I’m worried about their health, homework and all other concerns that every [other] mother has," she says.
They are such an easy going family that her kids have not even seen any of her movies even the popular ones like Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak and Hum Hain Rahee Pyaar ke.

“Well, my kids have hardly seen any of my movies, not even Hum Hain Rahi Pyaar Ke (1993). The one I could kind of drag them to [because they were very tiny] was Bhootnath (2008). I remember one of my kids was bawling half way through and asked, ‘How could you spank that little Banku boy?’ And the other one got so angry with me and said, ‘But you are my mummy, why are you pretending to be Banku’s mummy?’ So that was their reaction," she added.
Juhi even keeps her kids away from her starry friends, except for may be Shah Rukh Khan uncle.
“They sometimes meet Shah Rukh [Khan] uncle but other than him, not really! Parties, they haven’t been to any. At times, when I’m shooting just five minutes from my house, I ask if they’d like to come and see how I work and hope that they’ll get excited to come along, but Arjun and Jhanvi are so shy that they are like, ‘No way, we are not coming to your work. Whatever happens, we don’t want to come’," she sums up.
Keeping your kids grounded
We must say that we completely adore mummy Juhi Chawla's parenting style and there are many things that other parents can learn from her on how to keep your kids grounded.
It's true that in today's day and age we have an abundance of everything around us and our kids have a lot of those things that perhaps were not available to us. This is why it becomes very important for your kids to:
- Experience failure and learn from their mistakes by themselves as that's how would they would get the experience to tackle problems in the future.
- Earn their own rewards so that they understand that nothing comes free in life, instead of just providing them what they want.
- Respect people around them, especially the elderly as they are the ones who would teach them the real-life values and principals that would help them later on in life.
