The wave of feminism is strong and it seems everybody is drowning in it. But if you thought it was all noise and no substance, think again. Because this video starring actor Shruti Haasan proves otherwise.
In the powerful and 'on your face' video titled 'Be The Bitch,' Haasan talks about that one word which most people use for a woman they do not like. In fact, it is one word that most of you may have heard people using for other women. But through her strong words Haasan proves that a 'bitch' is a woman people are either afraid of or unable to handle.
Be The Bitch, says Haasan
Written and narrated by the talented daughter of Kamla Haasan, the video takes a dig at all those who label a woman as a 'bitch,' and try to tarnish her image. Haasan literally rips into popular perception of this word and redefines it, giving it a different connotation.
The video has been published online by the Culture Machine's digital channel Blush. This is for their #Unblushed series and has Haasan saying, "Bitch is the verbal eye roll you make to classify any woman who is not your cup of tea because she refuses to pour it."
She then goes on to say, "The bitch is a teacher who stands against a system. The bitch is multitasker and that's why she has no time for your excuses. The bitch is pure ambition with hormones."

How parents can help their daughters
With the alarming increase in the rate of crimes against women in India, it is our responsibility as parents to make sure that our daughters are strong enough to fight for themselves. And the only way to do that is by helping them boost their self-esteem.
#1 Build a positive body image
In a country where we tend to taunt the dark-skinned and praise those with fair skin, it is important to teach our daughters that beauty is skin deep. Don't stop your girls, for instance, from wearing something because you think they look 'fat.' Let them make their own decisions about their body to help them build a positive body image.
#2 Don't raise her to say 'okay sir'
Don't raise your daughters in a way that they become crowd pleasers. Train them to question, be curious and identify that which is not morally correct. Do not ask them to succumb to a situation because that's how the society wants them behave. There is nothing wrong in rebellion with a cause.

#3 Sports is not for boys only
Don't teach your daughters that if they play sports their body's will look like a man's! That's called being athletic! Encourage them to play sports and join the boys' team if they so wish. Let them know that their gender does not define who they are, their character does.
#4 Do not concentrate your praise on how she looks
Let's admit that there is more to a person that his looks and that cannot be the only defining factor of a person's personality. So raise your daughters to know that looking pretty is not the only prerequisite of success. You need intelligence, intention, ambition and integrity to move ahead in life.
#5 Treat all women with respect
Always lead by example. If you expect your kids to be respectful, be so yourself. Try to inculcate a sense of value and morality in your boys so all our girls are safe and respected. Just as charity begins at home, respect also begins at home. Teach your girls to be respectful to all but stand their ground where need be!
