Mums, here are 5 easy tricks to look taller in Indian wearMums, here are 5 easy tricks to look taller in Indian wear

These simple tricks can add several inches to your length, making you appear taller than you are without those killer heels

With so many weddings to attend, you must have already worked out your party trousseau. But apart from a saree, lehenga and an anarkali, another staple in most of our Indian wear are the killer heels that accompany them.

Let's be honest, heels not only make us feel and look good, but also add a lot more height. But what if we told you that you no longer need those killer heels to look tall. All you need are these 5 simple tricks for all your Indian wear and you are sorted with flats to dance into the night.

So what's the wait, let's get started.

#1 Drape of the dupatta

This simple trick can make you look so much taller than you actually maybe, plus, it's just a matter of a drape.

dupatta-drape

When you drape the dupatta in a shawl style or in front (creating a U/V-shape) of your leghenga, you basically cover your waist and your upper body, making your entire body look square-shaped. This dramatically decreases your height and even adds a few pounds.

To add a few inches (without heels), all you need to do is drape your dupatta in a saree style, just as the newly-married Dia Mirza is seen doing on the right. This lends your body its natural shape, cinches the waist and makes you look slimmer and taller.

Continue reading to see the next trick you can try with a suit or an anarkali.

#2 Fit to shape

If you are a fan of the anarkali or a suit and prefer these over lehengas and sarees, then there is another trick that can help you gain inches without the killer heels.

fit-to-shape

When you keep the fit of the kurta or the anarkali loose, you add inches to your waist, making the entire shape appear box-like. This dramatically decreases the inches off of you or makes it look as though you are short, even though you may not be.

So to avoid this, try to wear a fitted anarkali or kurta. This will cinch your waist and make you appear taller. Take a cue from yummy mummy Shilpa Shetty Kundra, who knows how to work a fitted anarkali like a boss!

#3 Work the accessories

This is another simple trick to help you gain those extra inches, without worrying about your footwear.

Whether you wear an anarkali, lehenga, saree or even suit, if you wear neckpieces that are short, they will make you look shorted than your actual height. But that does not mean you should not wear short chokers or neckpieces. If you like them, go ahead!

But if you want to add a few more inches into your height, then try to layer your clothes with a long neckpiece that can make your torso look thin, thereby making you look taller. Take a cue from wife and actor Vidya Balan on how to accesorise silver jewellery.

#4 Long and short of it

The length of your kurta or anarkali can also make a huge difference in adding or subtracting inches of your height.

While selecting your kurta or anarkali, make sure to add a few extra inches (length-wise) so that it gives the appearance of length to your body. Take a cue from yummy mummy Shilpa Shetty Kundra on how to style a kurta to give a taller appearance.

Although Shilpa is quite tall herself, but she can opt for flats when she wears longer kurtas, giving her an even thinner and taller appearance. Try this trick with your lose fitting kurtas and anarkalis.

#5 Bottoms up, wisely

Try to choose your bottoms wisely. If you are on the heavier side and opt for churidars and tight jeggings, it will add more volume to your legs, thereby making you look stubby and short.

So opt for loose-fitted palazzos and cigarette pants to give your legs a lean look. Take a cue from yummy mummy Madhuri Dixit Nene, who although looks lovely in a churidar, looks thinner and taller in a palazzo.
