Every mother is an idol for her daughter. No matter if she's a working mum or a stay-at-home mum, every little girl wants to be exactly like her mother and celebrities are no different.
Interior designer-turned-author Twinkle Khanna recently revealed that her four-year-old idolises but not in a way she expected. Yes, you read that right.
Actor Twinkle is not Nitara's idol and she loves this activity!
Khanna who started her career as an actor, but quickly moved on to becoming an interior designer may have expected her daughter to follow in the footsteps of her famous actor parents.
But Nitara has already chosen a different path.
In a candid interview to Verve, Khanna dished out the things Nitara loves coping from her, and surprisingly it has nothing to do with glamour.
"Does my daughter want to strut in my heels or play with my make-up? I don’t think so, but she wants to be me. She likes to make wisecracks. She likes to read. That’s more her avenue of emulating. I don’t think she wants to dress like me. I think she feels she dresses better than me," shared the witty Mrs Funnybones.
"I don’t believe in grooming my daughter"
She also revealed that she had no intention of dressing up her daughter and making her feel like a celebrity child for a very specific reason.
"I don’t believe in grooming my daughter. She is four. This is the time she needs to be free, run barefoot in the mud," shared Khanna who was recently made a brand ambassador for an international makeup brand.
"Am ready in seven minutes flat"
The other reason Nitara doesn't follow her mother's footsteps or obsess about makeup is because Khanna herself doesn't take enough time for Nitara to notice.
"I keep my face simple and am ready in seven minutes flat. I don’t believe in preening in front of the mirror for hours. I use a tinted sunblock and feel that it’s invaluable as it provides protection. I don’t need to use a foundation then. I use a bit of kohl and lip gloss and that’s enough. I am happy," shares the busy mum.
Be effortlessly graceful
It is quite clear that Twinkle's lessons for Nitara about beauty are a leaf out of her own book of understanding of the subject.
"My idea of beauty, more than anything else, is about being effortlessly graceful. It’s blending in without jarring. The only reason to not stand out vis-à-vis your look is if you don’t want to make a noise and you want your work to speak," she added.
But being herself is not the only value Twinkle is teaching her daughter. As an independent mum, Khanna has many feathers up her sleeves and she wants her daughter to follow suit.
3 practical lessons Twinkle is teaching her kids
- Teaching them self-reliance: When you have the means to buy an island for yourself and your children know it, they expect everything to be given to them on a silver platter. And that's precisely what the Kumars are avoiding. They are raising their kids as any middle class parent and will not even sign off their wealth to them!
- Being involved in their lives: Often times it gets difficult for working parents to be wholly involved in their kids' life, although this may not be true for most Indian parents, some are forced by circumstances. But it seems the Kumars want to make sure their kids concentrate on being the best version of themselves, whether academically or otherwise.
- Rooting for their dreams: Twinkle often shares pictures of her kids' extra-curricular activities and writes an inspiring message of appreciation and pride. That's precisely what encourages kids to be better and work harder and follow their dreams.
