That's not all. She returned to duty after 48 hours!

Days after mining baron Gali Janardhan Reddy was shamed for frivolously spending over Rs 500 crores on his daughter's wedding, here comes a story that would restore your faith in the system.

An IAS officer from Andhra Pradesh has set an example for others by spending only Rs 500 on her wedding. Yes, that's right!

Vijayawada sub-collector Dr Saloni Sidana tied the knot with her colleague Ashish Vashishta, an Indian Administrative Service officer of the Madhya Pradesh cadre, on Monday and just paid the court fee of Rs 500 in the office of Bhind additional district magistrate.

That's not all. Sidana was back on duty in Vijayawada within 48 hours! Sidana reports to the Krishna district collector A Babu. It was when she distributed sweets among the staff in the collectorate that everyone came to know about her marriage.

“It was really a pleasant surprise to all of us. She has shown an example to all of us at a time when the currency crisis has hit the entire nation,” said a junior officer in the chief minister’s office said.

Sidana,on the other hand, doesn't consider it to be an example and says that it was a normal thing to do.

“I don’t think there is anything unusual about it. We also had a simple marriage ceremony as per our customs apart from registering it (in court) It was purely a personal affair and hence we wanted to have it in a very simple manner. In fact, my husband also returned to the duty on Wednesday itself,” she told a leading national daily.

Only family members and close friends of the couple graced the wedding. The couple also had to elaborate reception or dinner party.

“We have not planned it so far. Maybe, we would do it later," she laughed.

The perks of having a no frills wedding

While the thought of having a wedding that is sans all the shor sharaaba might not go down well with you and your family, but it can be a profitable proposition for you. Here's why

1. You save all the money and can put it to better use such as going to a travel destination of your choice, investing it something that reaps dividends later or just save it for the future.

2. You don't have to waste all the time and effort in shopping for your wedding trousseau, hunting for the venue and buying gifts for relatives that don't even matter to you. Imagine the time that you will save!

3. If you choose to have a small, no frills wedding, you can actually spend time with your family members, who would otherwise be running around meeting the demands of snooty guests in case you go for a grand wedding.

4. You get a chance to be unique and set an example for your future generations. Won't that be great!
