Kajol started her career in the film industry in 1992, when she was barely 17. At the time she was just another star kid from an illustrious family. But over the years she proved her mettle as a bankable artist and continues to do so even today, after almost 25 years.
But her professional success has never clouded her opinion on family and relationships and she continues to prioritise them over anything else.
All thanks to my family!
In fact, in an recent interview for a glossy, the mum-of-two humbly revealed that all her accomplishments were not just her hardwork, but the support of her close family and most importantly her mother.
In the behind-the-scenes video (above), Kajol who doesn't seem to have aged a day shares that all the accomplishments of her life have been because of her family.
"I think whatever I am today as a person I would give a lot of that credit to all the people who have raised me, to my mother to my grandmother to my father to all members of my family, honestly," she shared.
The Dilwale actress who married fellow actor Ajay Devgn in 1999, has many times also credited her mum-in-law of helping her balance a successful career with her family and kids.
Mum-in-law is the word
"I am married into a family which is different from the one I grew up in. Here, women are more typically uni-dimensional, like in most homes. My mother-in-law, Ma, is simple and straightforward.... Glorious though the last two years (post motherhood) have been, I would not have survived them without her. I sometimes feel I am married to Ma…Ajay is out most of the time," she shared.
She even added that had it not been for her saasuma, she wouldn't even have made a comeback into movies. "Honestly, even now I wouldn’t have come back to work if not for a good maid and of course, my mother-in-law."
The actress who shared that her biggest strength during her years and days of tribulations have been her family, looked fabulous during the shoot. Donning Masaba and many other designers, Kajol even belted out a few tips for women on how to look their best at any age.
Look good at any age with this one simple tip!
Kajol shared that the only way one can look good is if they carry everything with oodles of confidence.
"I think confidence is the biggest accessory...You can wear the most ridiculous clothes and still look as though you can carry them off only because Hey! You’ve got the confidence to do it," she shared.
And take it from Kajol to share her tips on confidence because she is one of the very few film celebrities who is know to voice her opinion openly.
In fact, it is also a quality she is teaching her daughter, who is often seen sharing her piece of mind on social media platforms. This is also one of the many qualities we must our girls so they become more confident and self-reliant.
3 bold values we must teach our daughters
- Voice your opinion openly: In our country daughters are often raised as 'Yes men,' who are forced to agree with whatever is decided for them, first by their parents and then by their husbands and in-laws. And that's precisely what we need to change starting with our own daughters. Respect your daughter's opinion, even if it is different from yours because this freedom will make her stronger and more independent.
- Empower yourself with progressive thoughts: We must also teach our girls to not discriminate against anybody based on caste, creed, sex or religion and not in the constitutional sense. Lead by example and explain why we must respect everybody's life choices.
- Uplift fellow women: This is an important life-lessons we must teach out girls. As opposed to taking criticism by the same gender as negative, we must take it as constructive feedback and work to better ourselves.
