It can be tough for a father to connect with his newborn baby, says Riteish Deshmukh

It can be tough for a father to connect with his newborn baby, says Riteish DeshmukhIt can be tough for a father to connect with his newborn baby, says Riteish Deshmukh

"You realise that the mother's connection with the child is instant and they connect and for three months you're wondering - how do I connect with this child?"

Riteish Dehmukh is one celeb dad we all admire for the way he is bringing up his two boys, Riaan and Rahyl. While Rahyl was born two months ago, Riaan would be two this November.

The handsome dad was a guest on the popular parenting show The Tara Sharma Show, which is hosted by actress-turned-entrepreneur Tara Sharma. While speaking to Tara on the show the second time dad opened up about being a father and how he's a hands-on dad and doesn't mind helping wife Genelia changing diapers and feeding the newborn.

Riteish also spoke about how it is difficult for new dads to connect with their infant. "When you get into parenthood you just think that this is how fathers are supposed to be, but then you realise that the mother's connection with the child is instant and they connect and for three months you're wondering - how do I connect with this child?" he said.

However, he shares that while it might be tough in the beginning, you would connect with your child, no matter what.

"I know it's my child but there's nothing happening and then suddenly one day it strikes you, there's a point in time maybe three months, maybe six months, maybe seven depends on each one. The child will look at you and he'll start owning you," Riteish adds.

Riteish has made a very important point for new dads here. It can be indeed a challenge for new dad to bond with the newborn, especially when the baby spends most of the time with the mother. However, there are ways to bond with your baby and Riteish is a perfect example of how to do that.

1.Taking the baby out for a stroll: Let me tell you that there's no one as stressed as a new mother and if you are looking to spend time with your newborn and at the same time help your partner take a break, take your baby for a stroll. This way you can give the mother a break and spend some much-needed time with your child as well.

2 Give the baby a bath: Once your baby crosses the 6-month mark, you can sometimes give him a bath. Babies love playing with water and you would also enjoy doing it.

3. Rock the baby to sleep: Once your wife is done feeding the baby, ask her to hand over the baby to you and perhaps you can rock him to sleep. You can even sing a lullaby. Your baby and you would love it!
