If a mother is not happy, her children are not happy

5 min read
If a mother is not happy, her children are not happyIf a mother is not happy, her children are not happy

I was struggling to find answers on various issues I had with my baby at the time and I found that I was not the only one sailing alone.

I am a Mother of two. The reason I started the first Mothers group on Facebook wasn't to empower anyone, it wasn't started with a goal or a motive, it was merely started because I needed help with parenting questions.

I had struggled as a new mom, so I wanted to reach out and connect with other mommies....

I was struggling to find answers on various issues I had with my baby at the time and I found that I was not the only one sailing alone. More and more mothers joined for exactly the same reason as me - to get help. As the group grew, so did friendships. Bonds were formed and playdates organized.

My little group of 5 mums burst into a wonderful online space to come to make friends, receive support, guidance, and help.

A mother's happiness will spill over to her children...

I have realised that being a mother isn't a simple path. There are many aspects which need to come together for parenting to work smoothly and the first and most important is happiness. I believe that if a mother is not happy, her children are not happy.

The mother's role in the family dynamic is of extreme importance. Therefore, we need to look after ourselves mentally, physically and emotionally. Mothers are caretakers and generally responsible for the emotional side of the family. So it is important that we are happy and stable within ourselves to keep the family together and functioning smoothly.

If a mother is not happy, her children are not happy

This is the most special thing about my groups - we are there for one another. There is always someone there who will see you through the highs and lows, as it is one thing we universally understand from one another, we are all women and we all have love for children.

Vent it out and seek help...

I started the *anonymous* posts on my groups as there are many women who were afraid to openly talk about their problems. I was astounded by the issues that arose. It is wonderful to see women come together and help one another when needed.

It is even more wonderful to receive messages of thanks from women who have said that they have been helped so much by the group. I used to be able to give a few examples where the Mums community have helped one another but now there are SO MANY, right from guiding and counselling relationships to helping a child get on the right diet. Mothers have been helped in every aspect of parenting through the group.

If a mother is not happy, her children are not happy

We know we are good at helping one another on the groups but my mission now is to get the community to help women and children outside of our group. We have such huge numbers, I feel we need to put our strength and experience to use.

I encourage fundraising and drives so we can make a little bit of a difference to women and children who are less fortunate. I have a wonderful set of administrators who work their socks off in order for things to go smoothly.

Passing on the strength...

Over the last few years, I have seen immense strength from a huge number of women. I have drawn strength from these women in my community. They have helped me be a better mother, wife, daughter and friend and most importantly given me the strength to stand up for what is right. Every woman is strong and powerful, we just need to tap into our inner strength sometimes.
I love this poem so thought of sharing it here with you all...

A WOMAN OF STRENGTH

by Maryanne Pale

She rejoices in God with a grateful heart and a joyful spirit
She possesses the ability to genuinely say to another woman:
“I admire your qualities and attributes”
She is blessed with the gift of giving and a willingness to help others
She consoles others even though she too is hurting

She learns from her mistakes and acknowledges that she too is not perfect
She speaks with words of wisdom and not malice
From the mouths of destruction, her smile remains unshaken
She lifts her head and continues to walk in the midst of turmoil

She inspires other women to be the best they can be
With her life experiences, she touches the lives of a multitude
She remains determined to be the best person SHE can be
She smiles every time she says “I LOVE YOU”

She has the courage to take the fall for another
She is not too proud to say “I need you”
When her tears fall, she prays faithfully
When others turn their back on her, she still continues to pray faithfully

She is humble enough to admit when she is wrong
Through betrayal and talk, she remains secure in knowing who she is
She is loving enough to say “I forgive you”
She is at peace with herself without having the need to prove herself to anyone
