For a new mother, pregnancy can be quite an interesting journey. You do not know what to expect and you learn on the go. But what if you had a companion to constantly guide you and take you through the entire journey with ease?
Well, if you did not have one so far, 'mMitra' can be that companion for you, starting now!
What is mMitra?
This is a mobile voice message service that delivers weekly messages to expecting mothers and families about pregnancy, family planning, nutrition, childbirth and maternal and child care.
It was launched recently by Rajasthan Chief Minister, Vasundhara Raje.
During this launch she elaborated on its features and said, “mMitra is a free mobile voice call service (providing) culturally appropriate comprehensive information on preventive care and simple interventions to reduce maternal and infant mortality and morbidity. The voice calls are in Hindi, specific to the woman’s gestational age or the age of the infant and are sent weekly or twice a week."
How will you receive the message?
All those interested have to first register to be registered through the Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM). For the uninitiated, over 1,000 women have already been registered.
Now, once you have registered here's what you can expect:
- In all, you will receive 145 free audio messages in Hindi.
- Each of these messages will be about two-minute duration
- All these messages will reach the targeted beneficiaries starting from two months of their pregnancy until the child turns a year old
Which areas benefit from this mobile voice service?
Well, since this mobile voice service was launched first in Rajasthan, it will be available to expecting mothers and families in 195 villages in Khanpur block of Jhalawar district. However, this will scale-up across the district likely soon.
This service will hopefully reach more parts the country and benefit mothers to understand the various stages of their lives and also ways to take care of a newborn.
