Here's how Kajol lost all her post pregnancy weight to get back into shape
"I took nearly a year to get back into shape in a gradual, healthy way," reveals Kajol
In an industry where women are constantly judged on the basis of their looks, Kajol Devgan has broken the glass ceiling many times. Whether it is championing the curves or shedding the notions of beauty, thanks to her unibrow, this mum-of-two has never lived by the so-called 'rules.'
She even managed to unabashedly glide through a career in roles she caller her 'comfort zones.'
"I've always done what I felt was right"
"Everybody has their own rules, and so do I. I have always lived on my own terms. As far as mistakes are concerned, I've made them and acknowledged them as mistakes, not regrets. I consider my life a success. There's nothing that I would re-do. I've always done what I felt was right," she clarified in an interview.
Losing post pregnancy weight
In fact, Kajol followed her heart even when it came to rejoining work after becoming a mother and losing post pregnancy weight as well. The Dilwale star lost oodles of weight she had put on during her pregnancies and says that she decided to take everything slow.
"I took nearly a year to get back into shape in a gradual, healthy way so I could go around doing what I wanted to rather than putting my life on hold and being hellbent on losing weight! I followed a diet and regular workouts. Fitness has to be a part of your life, and not take over your entire life. I control my diet as I believe I have to take care of myself. I intend to live at least till I'm 100, so I should take care as I have some 70 years to go (laughs)! Having said that, I have my regular life, I go on holidays, etc. I am obsessed with fitness, not with losing weight," she quipped.
She also added, "Getting back into shape after having a child is not an easy task. And I realised that when my doctor told me how much my daughter weighed, which meant that all those extra kilos were for me to shed. When I got back into films after having my daughter Nysa, I had to work really hard to lose all that excess weight."
"I've always enjoyed working out, so I hit the gym with a vengeance and controlled my intake of food as well. I ensured that I spent a lot of time on myself to get back in shape. That is the one thing that helped me lose inches the most. There's no shortcut to losing weight or getting a svelte figure. And my advice to pregnant women would be — do not sit on your butt and get fat, keep yourself active as much as you can! Get in shape after your delivery or you'll regret it later," she adviced.
"She's (Aishwarya) at home taking care of her baby"
She also spoke about the unfair way in which Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was trolled for not losing weight post pregnancy for a long time.
"It's stupid to have this conversation. Everyone has the right to their lives and to look the way they want to! Tomorrow I can put on 25 kilos... it's my choice, my body! She's at home taking care of her baby. As long as it doesn't affect her work, I don't understand why it should be under discussion," she snapped.
Kajol has also made sure to spend ample time with her two kids. She often takes them abroad on family trips as well. And, by her own admission, it is a decision she consciously made.
"I am with the kids a lot more"
"Looking after babies is a full-time job, trust me!," she's said adding that she has been the disciplinarian in the house.
"Definitely me, as I am with the kids a lot more than he is. I am the disciplinarian. When they want something, they don't have a choice but to come to me and it all depends on my good humour!," she said adding that while hubby Ajay Devgn is not a hard taskmaster, he doesn't spoil the kids too.
"I wouldn't say he spoils them, but he is certainly more indulgent. Of course, he would love to spoil Nysa, but I think as a parent he has a responsibility and is very conscious of it," she says.
Either way, it seems that Kajol has a loving husband who is clearly responsible as well, helping her take her time to get back into action. Such support from the family and especially from the husband is essential for all new mums.
3 things fathers do by supporting their wives
- Give her 'me time': Just as Kajol shares, when her husband spends time with their kids, he not only strengthens his own bond with them, but also gives her enough time to be by herself or do things that she doesn't get the time to do.
- Help her rejoin workforce: By helping take care of the kids and by being a present father, new dads can support their wives to get back into workforce. New mums need support, whether or not they may admit it, but it's essential to be that first person to offer help.
- Support her in being a good parent: Parenting is not an easy skill. It is developed over time and with experience. But it can only be successful when both partners work towards helping each other become pillars of the family on which the kids can lean for support.
