In an incident that reminded India of the infamous Nirbhaya case, a 15-year-old Haryana girl was gang-raped and murdered on January 10th in Haryana.

The half-naked body of the teenager was found near a water channel in Jind district of Haryana on Saturday, January 13. The girl belongs to Kurukshetra, where she lived with her father and a younger sibling. She went missing on January 9.

The injuries on her body indicate that she suffered Nirbhaya-like brutalities. In fact, several of her organs including the liver and the lungs were ruptured. The culprits even stuffed sharp objects into her vagina. The class tenth girl suffered 19 injuries in all, say doctors.

The head of the PGIMS Rohtak's forensic department also said that the assailants even stuffed a foreign object into the girl's private parts. Due to which she suffered massive internal wounds. The extent of injuries suffered by the girl is gruesome, he adds.

“There was only a torn shirt on her body. The injuries were all around the body, on the face, neck, lips and chest. It appears that the victim had struggled a lot to escape from the sexual assault. The attackers might have tried to press her mouth also," Dr S K Dattarwal, head of the forensic department told the Times of India.

She had 19 injuries in all, says Dr Dattarwal.

"In all, her body had 19 injuries — largely on the face, head, chest and hands. Her lungs were ruptured, suggesting someone might have sat on her chest," Dr S K Dattarwal told the Times of India.

The girl was sexually assaulted by more than two

The injuries are so gruesome that it looks like there were more than two assailants, says Dr Dattarwal.

"It doesn’t seem to be the case of rape by one person. She was probably sexually assaulted by more than two persons. They might have tried to thrust some object into her vagina also. Her liver was found ruptured," he added.

The girl had gone missing on January 9 with a 20-year-old man from her own village. The man is also missing, however, there are no reports that link him to the case.

Meanwhile, the girl's family in Kurukshetra refused to accept her body and demanded that the case is handed to the CBI. They also asked for a government job and Rs 50 lakh from the Nirbhaya Fund.

The Nirabhaya incident happened on December 16, 2012. The 23-year-old was brutally gang-raped and thrown out of a moving bus in New Delhi. She subsequently succumbed to her injuries, which lead to a massive outrage in India and abroad.
