I am a huge fan of good movies. For me, a good movie is one that gets me thinking. In the recent years, a lot of brilliant movies have hit the screen. I have compiled a list of 5 good movies that you may have missed.
#1 Udaan
This 2010 drama tells the story of a strained relationship between a father and a son. Rohan, who has been abandoned to a boarding school for eight years, returns to the industrial town of Jamshedpur after being expelled. He is forced to work in his father's workshop, finds out about his father's second marriage, but does not give up on his dream of becoming a writer

What works
The interaction between an authoritarian father, a rebellious teenager and a caring and gentle, though childless uncle is captured beautifully. It may help you tweak your parenting style if others feel you are too hard on your child.
#2 Kate and Leopold
This 2001 fantasy tells the tale of a relationship separated by centuries. Leopold, a 19th century Duke and a scientist, finds a time portal to the 21st century New York. What follows is a weekend romance that turns into a lifelong commitment.

What works
In our busy lives, we forget that manners maketh a man. The way Leopold woos Kate is adorable to watch. A dad can take a page or two out of his book.
#3 Rocket Singh: Salesman of the year
Most of us may have watched this one. An average student finds a new job as a computer salesman. He finds himself frustrated at the way business is conducted at the company. He secretly enlists the help of a few colleagues and starts running a better outfit while still working at the company.

What works
I like the interaction between the grandfather and the grandson. Ranbir Kapoor has a strong sense of ethics, something we can all draw inspiration from.
#4 Highway
Kidnapped a day before her wedding, Veera, played by Aila Bhatt, finds herself discovering the shallowness of her high society life, and falls for her kidnapper. It touches the sensitive subject of child abuse and how it affects her ability to trust people as she grows up.

What works
The brilliant acting by everybody is the core of this movie. It reiterates the need for parents to listen to children and child abuse should not be a taboo.
#5 Dum laga ke haisha
A slim undereducated guy is coaxed into an arranged marriage with a well educated but slightly overweight girl. Both start exploring the relationship but end up being unhappy. A local competition brings them together and in that moment, they find the essence of a good marriage.

What works
This is a very novel topic. The apprehensions, expectations and tender moments of an arranged marriage are captured brilliantly. Though this is not directly related to parenting, the movie shows us the importance of discovering love in a marriage.
